Um... I would say that is the rule if I've worked out or if I was outside and sweaty all day. But for normal life I go by a 24 hr rule :)
ETA: whatever works for you is fine! I wouldn't worry about "normal" v. "weird"
I like to be spontaneous with that! I'd only say that a shower is mandatory if I've been working out, sweating, or just feel grimey from the day.
I can't and would not do it after working out or not having showered all day. I would feel so bogue. I do like it after a shower but it isn't mandatory. I think as long as I have showered that day I am good with it.
TMI WARNING! I can go for sex without a shower, but I usually tell SO no tongue-age down there until I have showered. He always tells me I have nothing to worry about, but I just feel gross unless I have showered before anything oral. Other than that, I say bring it on!
I can't do anything with 'morning breath' I just can't. Shower or not, doesn't bother me as long as you are not rank.
I'm a huge fan of the shower before... which usually ends up a combination of the shower and fun all in one cause SO doesn't like to wait for me to get out of the shower lol.

A shower isn't a necessity all the time, but I find myself somewhat more enthusiastic if I'm cleaner, lol. There will be times where I'll stop in the middle of foreplay to announce I need to shower to shave my nasty hairy legs, and he'll just laugh and pull me closer. Thank God he doesn't mind my pricklies!
I figure we are going to be getting sweaty during sex so we usually shower afterward. Unless of course we are too exhausted. Then we save it for the morning.
egb--I am very much the same unless its a morning thing and I didnt know it was comming. 
Showering isnt what gets to me - its morning breath and morning-ness of being all sticky because I sweat a lot in my sleep!
I don't think I've ever showered beforehand (unless we're doing it in the shower - then I guess I kind of am). If you're going to get all sweaty "doing it", I just don't see the benefit of showering beforehand. But to each their own!
i would never think to shower first. actually, it can kind of throw me for a loop to have just showered, like, i don't want to get the sheets all wet from my hair, and i'll just have to get back in the shower to fix my hair after so it doesn't dry all frizzy
Huh. Nah, I like being pretty flexible when it comes to that.
But if YOU enjoy it more after showering, then by all means, lather up!
Haha FI and I will do it anytime regardless of a shower. If we're having a really romantic night or it's the weekend and we want to be lazy and spend a few hours in bed though we'll usually shower...or even better have a bath together first :)
I agree though...sometimes after camping, the gym, or anything else sweaty and grimy a shower is in order. Other times, it's a little sexy to be spontaneous and dirty ;)
A shower isn't a must unless I feel dirty. As long as I showered sometime the night before on the morning of I'm ok. If my SO hasn't showered for days on end which he likes to do then that's a hell no. I don't do morning sex unless we both brush our teeth first. We don't really shower together but I do like to shower after sex. I think it's because I smell like sex and everyone else probably smells it also. I know i'm being paranoid.
I can do it without a shower first but I much prefer showering right before. You aren't alone!

I have to edit: I can do it without the shower first, but never, ever have any oral activities without it! BUT, I like to have the option, so if I have the opportunity, I will hold off to go shower... DH does too.
@pumpkinpatch: I'm exactly the same - sex doesn't bother me at all, in fact i'd say some of the best sex i've had with my fiance has been after a hard workout or a dirty day rockclimbing or hiking. BUT - no oral without showers. Either direction.
As long as I have showered that day I am fine. BUT that's only on the weekends or if I have been off from work. If I've been to work, I have to shower and wash those Pre-K germs off me.LOL
Morning breath is no biggie for me, tongue and all. (in kisses, but not down there!)
Showering or not doesn't bother me at all. But having not just shaved on the other hand... I get waaay too self conscious.
So if we are sleeping in on a weekend morning while he's still sleeping i'll do a little "leg check" and if it's not to my liking I will get up real quietly and go take care of it.
Now the FI on the other hand isn't really into it if I haven't showered after work yet. I walk all day in southern california, so its hot ^_^;; He never says its like a smell problem, just a like sticky after sweat problem.
FH and I aren't too picky when it comes to this. Yes, if we are freshly showered or haven't been sweating that day there's a higher frequency for below the belt kisses, if you will. I definitely prefer being intimate when I am clean and have freshly shaved legs and such. However, sometimes when he gets home from working out, he just looks so sexy I have to jump him then and there!
I'll agree with those above who list morning breath or bad breath in general as more of a downer in this situation. You have to have a kissable mouth!
Usually we end up a sweaty mess & I want to shower afterwards anyway..so yeah, it's certainly not a necessity.
Sure there are circumstances when I would prefer it (like oral, or being absolutely disgusting from a long day of work\working out\doing manual labour), or that would make me more game, but I do love some spontaneity.
I never even considered that to be a factor. We don't worry about it. At all. No matter what we're doing. *Shrugs*
That being said, we both shower in the morning.
Would never, ever, ever occur to either of us. The only "cleanliness" issues related to intimate frolicking that we ever think about are:
The human body is the human body, folks; 24 hours without showering does not make it unfit for copulation.
@pumpkinpatch: I feel the same, it's hot to come home from work to a nice romp, but Hubby knows I have a rule about oral if I havn't showered, sometimes he disobeys it, it seems he just love to go down there & Ill let him if I don't feel to icky
I can if I don't feel particularly dirty that day. I really do like to try and freshen up beforehand or I get really nervous though. Mostly, I do enjoy it much more when we are both freshly showered. Favorite!
@finnaroo: So funny because I always worry about my hair, too if we end up having sex while its still wet. I catch myself trying to smooth it down in the back or twist it hahahaha. Laaaame...
As long as I've brushed my teeth, I'm good to go! I shower every day, but if I could, I'd go back to the 60's and live like a hippie without showering :) haha

I just can't anymore. I feel so much better after a shower and enjoy it way more.. Kind of kills spontaneity though! Is it weird??
