So we’ve found our reception space but have been having a hard time finding a ceremony site. I was talking to the reception space manager about not finding a ceremony space and she said they could host a wedding but it would have to start at 3 and end by 4(they are a private club and they previously held ceremonies in one of their ballrooms on the bottom floor of the building but they are opening that space up to club members for dining now). So would you go with that option and start at 3 (and would you still do black tie optional) or would you keep looking and keep your original plans to start at 5:30? Thanks!

@Soontobemrs2012: what would the schedule be? Ceremony at 3:00 and then a gap for an hour and a half?
I would perhaps do black tie optional for the reception if there’s going to be a gap and I’d make the gap longer to give people time to change. Just a thought.

Tough. The time and location of an event are “supposed” to dictate the atire required, and 3pm would not say black tie to… anyone.

I don’t think so. The time of day dictates the dress and formal wear is not appropriate during the day. I would not ask guests to dress in black tie for a wedding thats essentially being held at lunchtime.
