Can you make a straight across strapless into a sweetheart with a brooch?

    Bear with me.

So I'm an idiot.  We'll start there.  The top (bust area) of my dress fits fine but not awesomely.  It goes straight across with good boning.  Can I use a brooch or something of the like to pull the middle in to make the bust area a little smaller, and create a sweetheart like neck line?  You can totally tell me if I'm playing with fire.

If anyone has done this and has pictures, please let me know.  I don't have enough time for an alterations b/c I fly out for the wedding in a few days and don't have time or know anyone once I get to the location.

    Thanks.

I would use A LOT of caution, but it makes logical sense that anything you could do with a saftey pin, you might be able to do with a broach. However I might even try with a saftery pin underneath, so that anything you pull together isn't putting stress on the broach. BUT, that being said, you have to consider if putting a broach on a problem area will help, or just call attention to the problem.

Is it that you don't like the look of the straight strapless, or that it is too big in general?

I bet it can be done! When I tried on my sample dress, they just used a simple pin to hold it, so I could see what it looked like as a sweetheart. With a secured and strong pin on a brooch, I think you can do it. Good luck!!

i think it dpeends on the material of your dress. some dresses are flexible enough to do it but some are too stiff and need to be professionally altered. if it's thin enough and flexible enough to be ruched by hand, I'd use a heavy thread and hand-stitch it very carefully so it ties on the inside. and i'd keep some on hand in case it snapped.

    Thanks guys!

The dress fits fine in the bodice area, it's just like a 1/4" too big.  Enough that less than a week from the wedding it's making me freak out, but not enough that anyone else would ever notice :)

It's a little late, but this photo of a brooched sweetheart neck might help?
