I definitely am no expert in this field, but that looks like a peony to me.

@Brielle: that was my guess too! And I could be wrong but I believe these are starting to bloom here in the northeast US now.

Looks like a peony to me. They bloom in May to early June here in Ohio, but I know you can import them year round – you just might have to pay out the nose for them 🙂

Haha – Agree with PPs… I would say a peony as well 🙂

Definitely a peony. My all time favorite flower!

@his chippymunk: Mine, too! My bouquet (shown in my avatar) was all white peonies! They’re such a gorgeous flower!

It could be a rose (that’s rose foliage) in the photo, but I see other foliage, too. If it is a rose, it’s a semi double landscaping rose, maybe one of the “Knock Out” series.
Check with a florist, they may be able to help you find one of the cut flower wholesalers that grow “garden roses”. I don’t know of any who grow “semi-double” roses, as these roses have few petals and “shatter” (drop their petals) quickly.

@rozeegrl: you can see the peony foliage in the upper left of the pic.

@julies1949: Yes, you’re probably right, as the foliage closest to the flowers (left top) does indeed look like peony foliage. The rose foliage is possibly the source plant of the single petaled red rose variety pictured.
