I got a RHR thats a little too snug on my finger. A jewelery store I went to told me that it couldnt be resized because the heat would turn the metal a different color..
Yet the internet says it CAN be resized…
Have any of you ever had a sterling silver ring resized? Howd it turn out?

@xcarley: Absolutely! Take it to a jeweler, not a “jewelry store.” I had a ring resized from 7 to 4.5 for $50. They have to keep it a few days to a week, but it comes out beautifully! I think the jewelry store was thinking if they had to use gold solder.. but that makes no sense. Go to a true jeweler.

Of course you can! Who on earth told you that? DH is a jeweler and will get a laugh out of that one. They can apply a treatment to keep firescale (which is what I assume that person is referring to) at bay when they heat the metal.

Silver is a trickier metal to work with, and chain jewelry stores don’t do it (in my experience) because they generally don’t have a jeweler in store, and it’s not really worth their while to ship it out.. but try a private jewelry store or a private jewelry repair place, and you should have more luck 🙂

hmm, of course it can be… but yes, take it to a metalsmith, not a chain store. Even if the chain store can do it, it’ll more likely be a worse job for a higher price.
