No, I am almost positive that is not the case. WS now has their own home store, so why would they send their customers to Pottery Barn?
Williams-Sonoma is affiliated with West Elm, so I'd imagine you could use gift cards from one of those stores at the other!

Yes, I have successfully used WS gift cards at PB and vice versa. I've also used Pottery Barn merchandise credits (essentially the same as a gift card) at West Elm.
Check with your local store. While it may be allowed, some stores may not be familiar with it or even train their cashiers to do the proper register coding. A quick call can get you a definite answer!
Williams-Sonoma Companies owns Williams Sonoma, WS Home, Pottery Barn/PBTeen/PBKids and West Elm. As of a couple years ago, when I worked at Pottery Barn, you could use gift cards from any of the stores at all the others. This *could* have changed, but I highly doubt it, and if the sales associate gives you any trouble, ask a manager. The computer systems for all the stores were identical, so we never had to "code" anything -- we just swiped the cards through or keyed in the numbers, and it came right up.
