From what I understand, you can only use your 20% completion discount on items that are on YOUR registry. Which stinks because there are things I now want that arent on my registry and I cant get the 20%. However, all their home stuff and most kitchen appliances are on sale right now which is about equal to the 20% off. Good news though you can still use your completion discount on items that are already on sale!
Put the espresso maker on your registry, then buy it for her. Voila! (Even better, register for 2 espresso makers and maybe someone will get you one as well!)
Oh it doesn't have to be ON your registry. I asked the lady at Macy's that and it was no problem. Because the espresso maker I bought for myself was definitely NOT on my own registry! She even told me the prices before my completion discount and after.....I bought lots of things that weren't on my registry b/c they were't in store!
Well thats good to know you can get everything else 20% off even if its not on your registry. To me, the completion discount means buying stuff off your registry and getting a discount for it, but if they let you get stuff thats not on your registry for a discount thats awesome. If the 20% applies Id get her the espresso maker!
you get discounts on your registry items? WOW! This makes me even more excited to register!
If it doesn't have to be on your registry, how would she know it's for somebody else? Just buy it and don't say anything.
Yeup! Yeah i thought a "completion list" meant things only on our registry, too! But when you pull up our registry now, these items show up as post-wedding registry items! So i guess it works.
I'm just assuming, though, that if I buy an esspresso maker for my friend, that it has to go under my registry, and I can give her the receipt, but it'll have my name on it. Then again, we are close enough that I can't imagine she'll think anything of it for saving some money and I've already asked her if she wants an espresso maker. Nobody else would likely buy one or spend that kind of money on a wedding gift, but since my husband and I are both in the wedding, we both feel like we should get them a nicer-than-usual wedding gift. Plus, they're like $150 online right now, so they drop to just about $100 or so...so it ends up being an "inexpensive" gift accidentally on purpose.
Ok i'll try this and let everyone know. It sounds too good to be true and sneaky...I'm sure Macy's is aware of this

We registered at Macy's. We get 20% off anyting we buy as part of our "completion" thing until mid-Aug.
I have a friend getting married next month. 20% off means I can buy her a REALLY nice espresso maker. We're both in their wedding, so it'll be a nice one.
So, do you know if Macy's will let me buy the machine and can I give her the gift receipt? Does it work like that? (how is it different than if I'd regifted something?) Does it matter if it's "for" my registry and not for hers? She didn't register for one, but I just told her I got one, and she's really "omg that's awesome i'm so jealous!" so now my husband and I want to get her and her Fi one.
Thanks!
