Thinking we might have a registry or two but kinda not sure where we can register here. All I can think of is Sears, the Bay, Home Outfitters, Home Sense, etc. I WISH we had better dept stores here like in the US!!

    Where did you register?

We registered at Sears.  It was okay...not a ton of choice, so we had to add items both in store and online.  If I had more time I might make a second registry for a different store (like...Future Shop or something), but I'm at the point where if people don't like the ideas we listed, we'd be perfectly happy with cash.

I know...our options kinda suck!  I thought about Walmart too and didn't go that route, although now I wish we had!  Sounds dumb, but...they've got some of everything.

A couple of my girlfriends have gone the Bay/Home Outfitters route. I'm originally from the States and all my family is there, so I think we're going to do the Amazon.com Universal Registry.  Just have to make sure the sites/products we use can be shipped to Canada.

We did The Bay and William Ashley's.  I can't say enough good things about Ashleys.  The Bay was not a bad experience, but it wasn't great either.

@Brianalaura: That's too bad about Canadian Tire.  We were thinking about registering there for tools.  :(

We did they Bay and honeyfund.com . If i could do this over I wouldnt have done the Bay, they were a HUGE pain in the ass. I would have done Sears and an Amazon registry.

    @Baileyh:

I have heard that about The Bay SO much. I am defnitely avoiding.

I will probably do Sears for out of town folk who don't really know what we like/want/need just to avoid getting seven blenders.

I second the avoid The Bay vote. They are HORRIBLE. Half the stuff our guests ordered for us wasn't there when we picked it up and they gave us a gift card for the amount. The stuff that was bought off our registry if it didn't come with a gift receipt when you try to return it they'll give you about 10% of what was paid for it. Seriously. And they have the ability to look up how much was paid for the item, that's how we got gift cards for the out of stock items that were purchased for us. They are HUGE jerks.

I had an AWESOME experience with Crate & Barrel. They were amazing. The Bay could learn a lot from them. They emailed me if something from our registry was being discontinued so we could buy it, or if something was seasonal they'd call me to let me know when it wasn't available anymore and make a suggestion for another item to replace it with. Seriously. The only downside is that if someone buys something for you and you need to pick it up at the store they'll only hold it for a week. I think they were going to change that though. If you ask them to hold it for a few days longer though (ie while you're away on your honeymoon) it's no problem.

I wish wish wish the Amazon Universal Registry had been available when we did our registry. I definitely would have gone that way, but it's pretty new. I think it was introduced right after our wedding. Bonus for you though!!! LOL!

I'm having a really hard time with this... I don't know where to register!!  I'm thinking bed bath beyond?  I'm worried the Bay will be overpriced for stuff too and just not really a fan of them.  I know Home Outfitters is the same company, but if anything, I'll register there.

@gb4: it worked out well. Most of our guests were older though and didnt take that route. Alot of my gf's used it though and its great. Basially we signed up for things we wanted to do and they had an option of "paying" for one. When they chose something it let them print off a piece of paper that said "This entitles you to a ferry ride from Mykonos to Santorini, love from person and person" They could either attach cash to it, or a cheque OR they could pay by paypal online.

its a great site to use bc no one was charged anything (and no spam mail or anything like that either)

@europomme: All Bay gifts cards can be used at Zellers as well. TONS of our bay gifts werent in stock or available so we ended up with over 800.oo in GC's  We sued them all at Zellers!! we got THREE sets of silverware (the same ones) for the cost of TWO at the Bay...we also got out down comforter for a fraction of the cost at zellers, same one at the bay

For anyone registering at The Bay, they're moving towards a more "upscale" market, so they're phasing out a lot of the lower priced items at the stores. One of the consultants told me that and it really got under my skin. I'd rather do Sears if I did it over again.

We registered at the Bay, and didn't have too many problems. Most of our guests gave us gift cards, and like Bailey said, you can use them at The Bay, Home Outfitters, and Zellers. We used the gift cards to shop around at all three stores for the best deals on things. My one favorite thing about the completion bonus at the Bay was the huge discounts on mattresses and luggage. We got our mattress for our bed at 60% off!! Also got a sweet deal on pillows and sheets.

Stokes, Home Outfitters and possibly Wal-Mart...as some of my friends don't live in cities.

I wish the bay wasn't so awful. I want a china set so bad but I don't want to register there at all, and Sears here only had one.

@bakerella: that's horrible! How snooty of them. In that case, I would register elsewhere.

Stokes was suggested, but I saw you were in BC, and there are actually not very many Stokes stores in our province! The only one in the Lower Mainland is in Surrey. Might want to check if you have one locally before considering there. I had to return an item someone bought me from Stokes in Atlantic Canada, and it was a huge hassel to do in BC.

    @Baileyh: @bakerella:

Ladies, way back in the day I actually worked in the Gift Registry department at the Bay. Worst job ever. The policies are horrible and the system they use is so out-of-date and disorganized. It was a nightmare for me, and I felt so bad for the customers buying gifts and the poor brides and grooms.

So as someone from the inside, I'm thirding that the Bay is a terrible place to register.

@jayce: I couldn't believe it when they offered me $5 for a $40 set of wine glasses I wanted to return. I know that the registry department can look up how much was spent when it was checked off our registry. It was an insult and a HUGE scam. It made me feel sick.

That was something I was really surprised about: The Bay's prices.  I was pretty pissed when I found out that my crystal was $20 more at The Bay.  The prices go up and down all the time there, which can be frustrating.

My sister was registered there and was lucky enough to receive some of her serving dishes.  When they arrived she opened the box to find that it had red ink (which couldn't be removed) all over the lid!  When they returned it, the salesperson sheepishly admitted that it was the floor model.  They received a new serving dish....only to return to The Bay two weeks later to find the original dish (with the red ink STILL on the lid) back on the shelf....for the original price of over $300!

@bakerella: I HATE that.  I know that's happened to friends using The Bay as well.

@ArwenBride: That is HORRIBLE!!!!! The only good thing I'll say about the Bay is that they do have good sales. My MIL got all our Gordon Ramsay dishware on sale for $60 a set rather than something like $150. It was on sale, and then I had a registry coupon for another 40% off that the lady at the cash let us use a few times because she thought we were so cute shopping together. THEN we used the same coupon for our Gordon Ramsay pots & pans that were on sale. We got something like $1200 worth of merchandise for $350. Score!

I registered for the corningware set at the bay, it was $100.00. When i went there to pick it up i noticed it was on sale for $50.00. I returned the set someone bought me and used the 100.00 gift card to buy back the corningware at 50.00 and then bought  a place setting with the extra 50.00. Stupid bay.

We registered at Sears Friday night. In store was ok, but it was a lot better when we got home and finished it off after going online. Walking around "clicking" was too fun.

I have had better experiences purchasing from Sears registries than anywhere else so I opted to go with that for our guests.

We have household items, tools, big ticket items (not hoping for "all" but the deals/coupons for after they give will help!) and I am happy with them so far!

@Baileyh:  I think that we may have received the same corningware set AND had the same idea re: returns.  LOL

    Stupid, yet handy.

i'm not a fan of those bay sales, thats why i dont want to register there!  Some people may pay $100 for something that they could have gotten for $50, so I just can't stand that... I'd rather take the cash and find the sales myself LOL.. I wish Canadian Tire registry was still around, I love that store.  I'd register at wal-mart so the money would go further, but I'm worried people will think it's cheap... I hope home outfitters is not like the bay!!

Wow, I'm surprised at all these horror stories from The Bay. Apart from having them replace a skillet someone bought us that had a dent in it, we haven't had a single problem with them. *knock wood*

Wow! So many Horror stories! Thanks for the warnings ladies. I will definitely be cautious. They were on my list of registries because I do like their stuff... not I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle though.

We registered at the Bay and at William Ashley for china and crystal.

After reading all these horror stories about the Bay, I want to go cancel that registry and register somewhere else! Gah.

We're registering at Sears and that's it. FI doesn't like the idea of registering at all, but accepts that we don't want to get 9 blenders, so this is a good idea.

We registered at the Bay, and I'm sort of disappointed already even though I haven't even received any gifts. For years as a guest I always was turned off by people registering for ridiculously overpriced priced stuff (to the point that for the last few years I've just been writing cheques instead of giving gifts). But as it turns out, that is because most everything at the Bay is overpriced, and if you wait for a sale it will be 50-70% off. I don't know about anyone else, but if a product can go on sale regularly for 50% off then it is not worth 100%

I had a really hard time finding things that we wanted at the Bay. Not dishes, not cutlery.  And then when I did pick out towels, etc they get discontinued! We are having a fairly small wedding and so I didn't want to have two registries, and the Bay is one of the few places that has stores in all the areas where our guests are coming from. I've told people just use our registry as a guideline of what colours we like and what sorts of things we need. And I figure if we get gift cards I can always use them at Zellers!

Hmmm, I didn't have any problems with The Bay!  We didn't end up receiving very many gifts off that registry, though.  But we did purchase some stuff for really good deals (we got a 15% off coupon for registering, and had that 10% off card for buying stuff).  We ended up getting a knife block full of knives from Henckel Trocken for under $100!!!

We're currently in the process of registering at the bay and home outfitters. I picked them because there are so many available all over the country. We have been disappointed a couple times (like the flatware set that we liked, the only thing that we've picked so far that my fiance really liked, was discontinued... ARG!), but I've found the gift registry associates to be extremely helpful. Its definately going to take a few trips before I'm satisfied with what we've picked though, and then who knows if anyone will even use it.........
