@loveroflove:  I find the local “mom and pop” stores are my favourite. There is a store in Brampton where Fiance and I bought our bed frame (we had the rest to match… long story) and it was solid oak for only $400! The frame from the set was made of chip board and from the Brick for $600! Check your local yellow pages or local paper and take a day to go exploring.

Anywhere that sells College Woodwork would be worth checking out I think? http://collegewoodwork.org/

I think budget can really sway any response here! We have had good luck with Sears and always ask where the furniture is made. We have some fabulous leather recliners that are “Sears” but made by a great furniture company in Montreal.

The place where we got our incredible secitonal is closed…but they shipped Canada-wide and were amazing…too bad.

Hmm…we have had a lot of good luck with kijiji and refinishing for wood furniture, but for leather stuff we got everything from above, and bedroom stuff came from smaller stores that are non-chain.

Like a previous poster said, really depends on what you’re looking for and your budget.

My husband and I bought our first house last summer and bought the living room furniture (2 couches, coffee table, side tables and a cool recliner) from Lazyboy. It was not the cheapest option but they were the most comfortable! We also bought some stuff off of kijiji (kitchen table and chairs, $100!) and a dining room table from a friend for $100 that we refinished ourselves – something similar at another store would be about $800-$1000.

We bought a beautiful bedroom set from Joshua Creek in Oakville – it has the quality that we could not find anywhere else, but of course, it was a touch more expensive. Worth every penny for the delivery and set up too. My parents helped us purchase it as part of our wedding gift, so that was a help. They have some REALLY nice stuff, highly recommend them!

There is a ReStore in Brampton that is always worth checking out too, if you are in the GTA. Good deals if you want to put some elbow grease into making soemthing look new again! 🙂

Best of luck!
