I'm sorry to tell you- I cancelled my W-S registry Monday! They are awful! See this thread:
http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/the-worst-registry-williams-sonoma
Bed, Bath and Beyond have been great-go with them.
Ugh. Don't tell me this! I didn't want to register at Target, I wanted BB&B and a Honeyfund, but FMIL convinced me to go BB&B and Target. I have noticed that a few things that I really do want are usually out of stock online - which annoyed me so much that I took them off and put similar items on BB&B. I hope I don't get a ton of stuff that are doubles from them... I'd be so annoyed if I had to deal with what you've had to deal with. On a good note... BB&B is fantastic! 2 gifts we've gotten so far (via mail) have been a bit off. One was a platter that wasn't perfect and one a showerhead, that my FH must have lost a rubber washer for, because it leaked! I took both back for exchanges and it was completely painless!
Oh wow, yeah, I'd tell Target to suck it too! HAHA We were going to register, but when we had a hard time even finding some things at BB&B we decided to just register at one place. Granted we are having a small wedding and only have about 70 people expected to attend so our small list of 50 items I think will do nicely. :) I love BB&B so far and you can use their 20% coupons too if you want for every single item!
Crate and Barrel is good too if you like their stuff. I'm doing B, B & B, Crate and Barrel, Michael C Fina for my fine china.
I hope I don't have a nightmare Target registry... I registered there because of the price-point and it was available to many of our guests who live in smaller towns; so it was pretty much either Target or Walmart. (I also registered at Dillards. I would have prefered Macy's or BBB, but my mom wanted me to register at Dillards and I didn't think it worth fighting about.)
Bed Bath and beyond have been super! I've registered at Target as well, but no one has bought us anything off of it. We have also registered at JCPenny which they have also been great to us. Definatley go with B B &B they are awesome!!
We had the best experience at Bed, Bath & Beyond, which is also where most of our gifts came from. We also registered at Crate & Barrel and Macy's.
Wow.. I never had a problem with Williams Sonoma- I had HUGE issues with crate and barrel. We kept getting another couples wedding items (i.e. Aunt Sady would purchase a gift for these people and CB would ship it to us)- we called them multiple times and they just didn't care. They said if wanted we could drive 30 miles to the nearest store to return it (?!)- never offered a shipping label or anything to get the product to the correct people. They also added these huge blue vases to our registry list.. my brother in law ended up buying the whole freaking set. I now have give 2-5 gallon bright blue floor vases (and they don't match anything in our condo/we don't have room). I don't have the heart to tell him what happened and never took them back.
I was tempted to cancel my wedding registry at target after trying to return a $15 non-functioning item that the manufacturer told me to return. They only gave me half the money back. But I was told that the whole target store is only allowed to return $70, not $70 per person. However, the not-very-helpful girl did tell me that if I'm returning items off my registry, they extend the courtesy to registrants to receive all the money back...even if it is a gift card.
They got a really nasty email from me, stating that the only reason I'm not cancelling it is because not everyone has a BBB near them.
If you have a Macy's Credit Card 10% of the cost of everything that gets purchased from your registry gets given back to you as a gift card. Plus, anything on your registry you buy yourself you get 20% up to 6 monthes after your wedding. I had to return some glasses that arrived with one tiny chip and they're were super cool about it. Here's that program http://www1.macys.com/registry/wedding/m/benefits-of-registry
Both Macy's and BB&B have other incentive like free stuff just for registering things like kitchen aid and etc. Here's BB&B's incentive program http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/RegIncentive.asp? You can also go there in person and have a consultant help you with what to put on your list.
Wierd, I can't believe Target said that to you. I got a LOT of duplicate things & they took everything back & gave me a $200+ gift card. None of them had gift reciepts either (well, maybe a few).
Did you tell Target that you had registered for the books? Not sure if they were on your registry?
I wouldn't delete your Target registry cause if people already bought you stuff, if it was on your registry, you don't need a receipt to get in-store credit.
I feel like it wasn't just an isolated case... there's way too many people that have had bad experiences there. It's just so frustrating, because it really depends on the salesperson you get when you go to return stuff.
serabell, I did tell them they were on my registry and my registry even indicates that three of the same item were purchased, but they didn't care. :(
Tonight, I took stuff back and brought the FI, so we could use his license information, because during our shower last Saturday several people weren't even able to find our registry in the Target system, so they decided to go rogue, picking out random decor that they thought I would like. :\ Of course, these guests didn't give us a gift receipt either... so, we were in the same need-to-return boat, again.
I hate to sound like an ingrate, but we honestly have a small apartment, so I can't rationalize filling up a closet with duplicate gifts and random decor that doesn't match our style. Grumble. Grumble.
Cakegal... I haven't clicked on your link yet, I'm kind've scared to... I set up the registry with them yesterday, because I was so annoyed with Target and I liked the fact that you can use W-S gift cards at Pottery Barn and West Elm. (Sidenote: WHY DOESN'T WEST ELM HAVE A REGISTRY? Bum-mer.) I guess it's time to face the thread-truth... eeek.
Uskadelig-don't know if your noticed this on my post but be careful using gift cards there. I had this problem with Pottery Barn this past Christmas. Fi's family had given us gift cards for a piece of furniture. They gave us roughly $1000 and the total ended up being $1150. When I ordered i put the difference on my debit card. They charges the entire $1150 to my debit card and it took 10 days and 8 hours on the phone talking to 10 different people to get the money refunded. They said that was their "policy."
Obviously I have really bad luck with that company!
@missbrache: wow i would have never guessed macys!!! i think im going to do macys and bbb! anyone had any experience with kohls??
I signed online to check my Target registry and found BABY ITEMS on my registry!!! I was so confused how they got there... neither my fiance nor I scanned ANY of those items (we didn't even scan any items that were in the same aisle as those items, so there's no way we could have "accidentally" scanned a barcode without knowing). Needless to say, Target is not my favorite registry.
I had issues with BB&B and Target discontinuing stuff from my restristy. So much so, that we had to go add new items to fill in things that were never coming back...
I love that you equated your Target relationship to an abusive boyfriend. I know abuse isn't funny, but it was a good analogy.
The only problem with Target that we had is that there were diapers on our registry!
Yeah I heard horror stories about Target! We registered at Macy's and Bed Bath & Beyond and have had zero problems! Good for you for canceling with them!
After all the horror stories we decided to forgo Target, but Macy's has been pretty cool! We also registered at Amazon.com and I'm really curious as to how that one shapes up.
We're registered at Macy's, Crate & Barrel, and Williams-Sonoma. While we're completely happy with all of those, my favorite is Crate & Barrel. We've had a couple of things go out of stock, but I kept my eye on it so that we could take those things off and replace them with other items. But overall, it was so easy to navigate Crate & Barrel's site and store, the list looks nice and is easy to read, and they're great with returns. W-S is easy to use, too (but we have not tried to return anything yet). Macy's is a little annoying because some of their stuff is on back order for like 2 months out, and sometimes stuff goes out of stock, and it seems like there are a lot of things that are available in stores but not online and vice versa.
To anyone who has yet to register and is just doing some research -- please DON'T register at Target. I hate buying from people's Target registries. Online, it seems like more than half of the stuff is not available or no longer available, and in store, you have to trek everywhere to find what you're looking for, and chances are pretty good that they're out or don't have as many as you want, etc. The whole experience is so annoying, but even worse is how many people register there thinking that they're doing their guests a favor because there are Target stores everywhere across the country!
I was really pleased with pottery barn! The stuff we registered for is all really nice quality too! They were amazing about returns and even helped us fit all the things we got into our trunk when we completed our registry with some gift money. Last time I was in to buy a present for SIL for graduation, the cashier added it to my (now passed) registry and gave me the discount. to be nice!
Luckily, I have had the worst experience using Target's registries for other weddings so I told my FI no way were we registering there! If there is no receipt get your mom or FI to return one or two of the cookbooks.
MaggieGirl, we also got baby items on our wedding registry! Thank goodness we caught that before anyone saw it, but we didn't catch these horribly ugly black pillows...and we did end up getting them as a shower gift! Hoping they'll accept them!
i officially registered at couple of stores then got myregistry which i love and went to websites and added goodies
I haven't started with my registries so this thread has been very helpful. Thank you ladies!
We just registered at Wal-Mart and later that evening I looked at our registry and there were many things that we didn't register for on there. There were 3 dvd players, some zebra print crap, and many other things. It was crazy.
Oh Boy! You all are scaring the crap out of me!
I just cancelled my BB&B registry because THEY were adding stuff to my registry and switched to Target! If I switch one more time my mom is going to kill me because they are trying to send out shower invites lol.
But, we have a honeymoon registry too so maybe people will just buy things there!
I wanted to second Crate & Barrel - they were fabulous! The one and only place that didn't either lose our registry or give us a hard time about anything. Their stuff is quality and they just have really awesome customer service. They always give your guests gift receipts and actually tape them to the inside of the box when they're packing it up for you...they rock.
I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. But I had a really good experience with Target. Yes I agree their online/in-store items can be confusing but I stalked my own registry like no other. I constantly was making sure items we registered for were both in store and online. Also I would update things to make sure everything would be clear & in stock.
It also seems they recently updated their registry return policy. At first it seemed (like many others) hopeless with broken and non-recipted gifts we need returned/exchanged.
But then!!! all we had to do was print out the list of what people got for us in the in-store kiosk and BAM, we got 100% returns instantly! It was that easy! Good luck to everyone in this situation!
i just cancelled my target - well more like moved almost everything off that i could find comparable items for at b, b, b. i had the same experience as Uskadelig: no gift receipt and they could only give me $2 back for a $15 item and all i wanted was full store credit. they also no longer stock the majority of my registry items or there are limited quantities. i've had it. i switched three weeks out from my wedding and updated our website. i also put a note at the top of our target registry page that most of our items from that registry moved to b, b, b. i hope our guests figure it out....
I have heard horror stories about Target, both from the boards and my friends. One of my friends had stuff added to her Target registry that she didn't want and had a hard time returning.
Plus they gave money to a political campaign I morally oppose.
It's unfortunate though, because there is a target within walking distance of my FI and my place. We live in the midwest where they are everywhere, but decided to go with BB&B. We're also doing a charity registry so that's an option for people who don't live near a BB&B.
I didn't do a Target Registry because it's a PITA to return stuff (as everyone else has pointed out). My sister had her baby registry there, and she got duplicate Rocking Horses, and they wouldn't let her return it! I just don't want to deal with it. That's why we did BB&B and Macy's... easy enough!
We did W&S and Macys, and it was a great experience with both, and both have a great return policy. They both also give you a percentage off of things on your registry that you purchase after the wedding for a year.
We did register way too early at W&S and had to do a new registry, and it was nearly impossible to delete an old registry.
Oh man, I'm nervous about my registry now. It's time for me and Mr. Dear to register, and I have nooooo idea how to do it.
We registered at Target, Walmart, and Kohl's... No major issues yet... I noticed one thing added to my Target registry that I didn't want, but no big deal. Haven't had showers yet to know how guests do with them :) We'll see! I didn't want to go to BB&B or other places because they're so much pricier... Hope this works out!

I have to share this here, because, let's face it... no one else in my life will appreciate the sweet relief that I feel right now!
We're a little more than a month out from the wedding and I just called Target to cancel my registry and I've never felt more liberated! I should've listened to y'all when you said that they have a terrible return policy... but, like an abusive boyfriend, I just kept making excuses for em.
Last night, I went to return two cookbooks because we received three duplicates at our shower last weekend, but of course no one gave me a gift receipt, so the clerk took my license number and told me I could only return $70 worth of stuff without a receipt in a YEAR. Are you kidding?! What a nightmare.
Then, in an odd twist of fate, I received an email this morning from Target that said "important product update," that they wanted to let me know that EVERTHING that's left on my registry is no longer carried in the store or are in such limited quantities that no one will be able to find them. Um. That was all I needed. Bu-bye.
Williams-Sonoma, here I come! :D (Please don't tell me you have had nightmare issues with them, too... anything has to be better than Target.)
