We're going on our honeymoon to Cancun at the end of October.  We'll be staying at an all-inclusive resort, and the mister has been there before.  I'm not worried about doing too much planning beforehand, but figured it wouldn't hurt to ask for a little input from the hive.

Who's gone to Cancun?  Have a favorite restaurant or activiity?  A "must go" tour?

If you have the chance to take a trip to Chichen Itza (Mayan Ruins), do it!! Well worth the money and the 2+ hour trip.

We were in the Riviera Maya and also went to Chichen Itza to see the Mayan Ruins as well...very worth it! If you're also looking for good souviniers, Cancun shopping is also great. We mainly stayed on the resort for dinners since we went to an all-inclusive as well.

Xcarat was also a big thing in our hotel as far as trips went. We didn't want to book too many excursions on our honeymoon as we wanted to relax, but everyone who went said it was a lot of fun.

My recommendation is to book at  your hotel or before you go. There are a lot of people in the airport who are going to try to get you to book excursions through them, and they aren't always legit, so just keep your eyes open for those who are trying to sell you a scam.

I highly recommend the following restaurants: Lorenzillo's and La Dolce Vita!

@mlkeysock: Booking at the hotel is great advice for the honeymooners-to-be. I second that!

They usually have the best rates. It's nice to be able to charge it to the room, and these are typically the best deals.

Plus, everyone going will be from your resort area, so you'll likely make some friends! We met quite a few 20-somethings during our excursion.

The bf and I went to Cancun before and we did the Chichen Itza tour and the Xcaret tour.  I must say - the Chichen Itza tour was really interesting and we got to see a lot of ruins and learn a lot of facts!  We really enjoyed but beware - it gets really hot when the sun is beaming to bring water and sunblock.

Xcaret was my favorite as it has lots of snorkeling, diving, shows and everything you can imagine - even a beach!  We stayed there the whole day since it ahs restaurants too.  We booked everything here in the states before arriving and we found that we saved a couple of bucks.  There some great combo deals on tours out there!

I went to Cancun and stayed a teeny bit outside at the Moon Palace (loved it!).  Second everybody on Chichen Itza..XCARET was fabulous!  They had really good ceviche at one of their outdoor restaurants btw.

I really enjoyed bartering at their market in downtown Cancun.  Got some Arthur Court look alikes (lasted well I might add and looking wonderful still) and paid very little..but my xh's golf bag (which i stuffed them into) was like 100 lbs or something!!!

Btw, moon palace has great rooms (all w/ocean facing jacuzzi) and one of the biggest pools I've ever seen.  It was almost like an olympic sport swimming between each of the swim up bars.  Had to be almost a 1/2 mile long!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions, ladies... we were definitely planning on Chichen Itza - at least a little bit because the mister likes to call it "chicken eats ya"
