I would say Jamaica, mostly because Cancun makes me automatically think of rowdy, drunken twenty-somethings...not the neighbors I would want on my honeymoon. Also, I've always wanted to go to Jamaica -- it just seems more interesting. There may be more to see in Jamaica than just the hotel/resort area you stay in, whereas in Cancun, you really can't venture outside the resort area because it's not safe. Jamaica, to me, has always seemed more welcoming and friendly, whereas Cancun just sounds like one big party. Plus, Jamaicans have an amazing accent. 
We picked Jamaica, Couples Negril. I ruled out Mexico all together. At the time we booked I kept hearing news bits about drug wars and dangerous stuff. Not long after we had booked all the swine flu stuff came out. Even though people seem to have calmed down about that stuff, I'm glad I'm not fretting about if my honeymoon will be ruined by having to wear face masks. We have friends that were on their honeymoon just after they announced the swine flu. They had to wear masks and were moved to a different resort, still in Mexico but supposed to be less risky.
I'm not the most informed about travel or Mexico and I'm sure there are some great arguments for picking Cancun, but those were my two cents.
jamaica man! what if there happens to be another swine flu break out while you are there. you don't want to look like spencer and heidi wearing masks on their honeymoon, do you? jamaica is beautiful + awesome which = you should convince him into changing his mind.
i agree with ChaiAkh99, Cancun gives me images of rowdy boozing and crowds - i could be wrong, never been there but how can you go past Jamaica

We did Jamaica, a really rural part in eastern jamaica so that might not be what you're going for. There's lots of caribbean islands, anywhere you can compromise on?
