there was a recent post on candlelit ceremonies on dcnearlyweds - http://www.dcnearlyweds.com/2008/03/professional-lightingis-it-really-must.html
I think the effect can be so romantic and amazing, but as far as the pics I think you really need a photographer who really understands lighting and shadows, etc. so it might take a little searching to find someone who can do it right. I would ask to see any examples at all in their portfolio where candlelight was the main source of light.
Yeah... while those pictures are in a way romantic and amazing (and show off the venue in a nice way) you can't actually see any of the people. Maybe if you do a portion of the ceremony by candle light, like when they pass out candles for a portion of the church service on Christmas Eve? You can turn the lights down and get some cool photo effects, but also have light you can get decent photos by for the remainder of the ceremony. I would guess that the problem is with the light that low, your photographer is going to have to use a tripod and a really low shutter speed to get decent exposure, which means that any shots of actual people will either be really dark or really blurry.
If you're doing videography, I'd rethink it. A family member just got married in one and the video is quite blurry. I'm sure it looked lovely in person, but it really isn't enough light for good video.
aww don't give up on the candlelit ceremony idea. Sure you're pictures aren't going to look exactly like everyone elses but that's the point...not to be like everyone else. Try to think of the moment and not just what it will look like later...in the moment you'll be bathed in soft, warm, light and I think your guests will feel the warmth and intimacy.
here is a bio of a bride that had a low lit ceremony with tons of candlelight. Even though her photographer isn't a high level photographer I thought she still had some gorgeous pics and the light of the candlelight just made everything glow with warmth

Has anyone done a candlelight ceremony? How did your pictures turn out? Did you have your BM's carry candles instead of flowers? I'm thinking about doing a candlelit ceremony, but don't know the logistics of pulling it off... Help!
