Wow. I'm sure they'll refund your money. I had a really good experience with them.
I had something similar happen with save-on-crafts.com. It was a two month ordeal that invovled the BBB. I was NOT happy.
Ick. That's terrible. Did you ask if you could get the new bigger holders if you return these?
It will be interesting to see if it really will melt down. If it does, since your candles will probably be lit for a bit before your reception starts, it might all work out. Keep us posted!
You've paid quite a pretty penny for those. I hope they come through for you. If for some reason they don't-maybe you could add either lace or ribbon to the bottom?
Huh. I had such a good experience with them, too. That's so frustrating! I hope they refund you. And if not, definitely just wrap the bottoms with ribbon or lace like the other posters said - nobody will be the wiser!
Wow, sorry that you had such a bad experience with them. Like others mentioned, I think something decorative like ribbon would be a good fix!
Thanks for suggesting tying a ribbon around it! That would be a great solution to this problem if they do not refund me!
Below are a couple photos of how the candle looks after 1 hour of burning. I have to say that I'm not liking how it turned out:

At least I have the ribbons as a back-up plan :)
First, thanks for posting this. I recently ordered some tapers from Candles 4 Less and am planning on purchasing 144 of the same votives you did...so now I will wait until they can confirm the *new* votive holders have arrived. I'm not sure why they sold those to you as is, if they already knew this was a problem. I'd be really surprised if they do not refund the shipping and send you the new holders once they have them in stock. The good news is that it looks like you have plenty of time before your wedding.
Again, many thanks for letting us all know and best of luck to you in getting this resolved. Please let us know the outcome!
Is it really that bad? Yes, you paid quite a bit for them but I wouldn't stress over 0.25". I mean... if you were at a wedding and the candle didn't sit exactly flush at the bottom would you even notice?
I say try to get some money back from them but use the candles & votives as is. I bet you'll be the only one who notices.
@TamiN: I know I'm not the OP, but...after planning a wedding for 18 months (and being a lifelong perfectionist to boot) I can honestly say that this teeny, tiny detail that others might not notice would bug the hell out of me. And at $300, candles should fit their advertised holders. I would be just as disappointed as the OP.
Um No. I would NOT be ok with that. Yes it is just a little bit but I agree with you when you buy something and they tell you it will fit. Then it better fit! I would be upset about this, especially after you paid that much money. I would notice this at a wedding (but I notice things like that). Sorry you have to deal with that.
Depending on your theme/setting, could you at all fill the bottom with sand (or colored sand)? Maybe tiny little gravel rocks that look like river rocks? Tiny silver beads?
I do love the idea of a ribbon on the bottom though. That's a lot of work but worth it if they aren't willing to work with you on a refund.
How frustrating! That's basically defective merchandise and you should definitely get your money back and/or a shipment of the larger holders.
That's really too bad - my experience with them was great, but I just ordered the candles from there. They fit fine into all the candle holders I bought from Jamali Garden and a few other places.
@KristenGotMarried: I've also seen candles/sand in the same container look great! OP if you're interested I think I have a pic somewhere.
I hope that works out for you...no excuses on their part for what happened!
Yeah, I agree with some of the above comments, sand or glitter or something could look really cool.
Good to know about Candles 4 less, I was considering them for my pillars. Prices notwithstanding, this is a lame thing that happened to so many people!
@MrsMaine: I did ask if I could get the bigger holder and they did say I could get it in exchange. Still waiting to hear back about the shipping, though!
Thank you for all of the great suggestions!
@TamiN I agree that it's not a huge deal, but like @vaness13181 and @june42011 , it's something that would personally bug me knowing they are the way they are!
Okay! Just got off the phone with the rep at Candles 4 Less. They will exchange the small clear holders for the new larger holders, pay for the return shipping, & make sure I don't get charged on any more COD fees for when the new holders come into Canada. Although it will be an inconvenience shipping these holders back, I'm 100% satsified with the customer service if they end up pulling through with what they've told me they'll do.
For anyone who was thinking of ordering these same votives + holders. They've just told me that they'll have the new larger holders in stock in about 1.5 months from now. If you do order them then, make sure you give them a call just to be sure!
yuck, that's not good! can't believe you paid that much for shipping! outrageous. hope you get a refund!
@GI Josephine: Believe it or not, the cost of the candles + shipping + duties = less than anything I could find locally or through a Canadian site! (I envy all of you Americans and all of the free shipping you get!)
Wow - annoying but good you sorted it out! i cant believe how much shipping costs! I order frequently from the US, and shipping to Australia wouldnt cost that much!!! WOW!
Wow, I am so sorry. I ordered 200 candles and votives from them back in july and they fit perfectly. I wonder what changed. We used ribbons for decoration not for a problem but they looked amazing.
I'm glad you'll be able to get the holders you need! That is pretty good customer service if they come through on it.
I was going to suggest putting something on the bottom of the holder (sand, coffee beans, cranberries, pebbles), so that's always an option too, if something doesn't work out.
What color is your wedding? Could you get little glass beads or wax beads or pebbles to fill the bottom 1/4"? It would be elegant, I think.
I mean, first priority is the company fixes what it did wrong, but maybe they can send you something else to help like colored wax beads.
I would also use some sand, becuase that way it will keep the candle in place while it's burning, and it wouldn't slide down while it melts like it's doing to you.
I just ordered a box of frosted glass votive holders with candles from them and also had the same problem. However, since the glass is frosted, it doesn't look that bad and is barely noticable.
@treelc: Oh yeah, those look fine in the frosted glass!
An update on the candle holders: They sent me the new ones! And they fit perfectly! Also, because I had asked that they pay for the return shipment of the holders that did not fit, they decided it wasn't worth the cost and told me to just keep them. Everything worked out great in the end, but it's a good thing I had time to spare or this could have been a very stressful event!
***Anyone that is interested in ordering from candles 4 less. They did in fact fix the issue. I ordered a ton of candles, holders, & battery candles and everything fits great! They also packaged it really well and somehow nothing came in broken (whew!). I just wanted to share this for future buyers :)

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to write a little warning about Candles 4 Less. I've recently ordered a large number of candles from them, 360 ivory votive candles + 360 clear holders (exact same as these here: http://www.candles4less.com/votive-specials). I had read many glowing reviews about their candles and fast shipping so I thought I was good to go. However, I was sorely disappointed when I received my batch of candles.
I happily opened the boxes and started placing a candle in its holder, but the candle would not reach the bottom of the holder. It was sitting at over a 1/4 of an inch above. Considering that the candle itself is only 1 1/4in high, 1/4in above the bottom makes it look cheap and tacky in my opnion. I tried pushing the candle down with some force, but that only made the bottom of the candle crumble and it still did not reach close to the bottom. I tried warming the bottom of the candle under hot water and that barely helped either (not to mention I wouldn't have time to do that for 360 candles).
I just called Candles 4 Less' customer service and learned that they are, in fact, getting larger clear holders in the following months. I specifically asked, "Is this because there have been many cases of these candles not fitting properly?" to which the representative said, "Yes". I'm glad she was at least honest with me, but it is false advertising on the company's part to say that "these candles" will fit in "these holders" when they clearly do not. The pictures and videos on the site all show the candles sitting perfectly in holders, which is not the case with the candles & holders I have recieved.
Right now I'm waiting back for their call to see if I can get a refund including the shipping costs (I'm from Canada so I paid a pretty penny for the shipping). She also told me that the candle will melt into the bottom after about an hour of being lit. I'm experimenting with this as I type and will post the results of whether this occurs or not.
In the end having a candle sit 1/4" off the bottom is not the end of the world. I just feel like you should get the product you've purchased.
(Note: It wasn't just a couple candles that wouldn't fit, ALL of the candles I tried wouldn't fit - I tested out about 60 of them)
