buy the recommended amount and if you are still worried about it, buy just a little bit more. but hopefully people will be on the dance floor and not at the candy buffet all night long, so you won't need to worry about running out of candy.
also keep in mind that not everyone will be taking candy from teh candy bar. I went to a wedding last year and I was the only one out of the ten people at my table who put together a candy container. i only filled it halfway.

So our latest headache is our candy bar. We're really at a loss for how much to get. We've read that a half pound is sufficient per person (and that's how much candy each of our favor boxes will hold), but what happens if people eat some during the reception, in addition to take some home with them? Ahh, I'm so worried about this. Should we buy tons of extra? I'd rather not do that if possible because I don't want to have to force all the extra candy on people to take home the day after.
For those of you who did/are doing candy bars, how are you handling this?
