Any ideas on where to find cheap containers/ bulk candy for a candy bar? I like the one pcitured below but it looks expensive and even checking at Wal-Mart the containers look like they would be pretty expensive. I want to do one but I don’t want to spend a bunch of $$.

I got all of mine from Good Will or Thrift Stores for less than $1/piece. Also, be sure to check on Craigslist. When is your wedding? I would sell you mine, if you are interested.

Check TJ Maxx (Homegoods), Micheal’s or Hobby Lobby. That’s where I got mine (for $5-$15).
I found that if you buy a few interesting jars you can use some simplier ones with them (like jars for pillar candles).

You’ve got some time to collect slowly, so I would look for deals at discount retailers like TJ Maxx and Marshalls. I’d also stop by places like St. Vinny’s and/or Goodwill. If you’re planning on keeping any of the containers, I’d also look at places like IKEA, Target, and Kohls. Those places aren’t dirt cheap, but if it’s something you’re going to use again, it’s worth it. Plus, honestly both Kohls and Target often have items discounted.
As far as candy goes, are you color coordinating? I was going to do that, and spent hours scouring online sites, only to find that the cheapest candy I could get there was still so much more expensive than just buying multi-colored candy in the stores (even if the prices are cheap, shipping is so expensive). If you go with online sites, a few of them are metrocandy.com, ohnuts.com, and candywarehouse.com. I also actually found a few good deals on Amazon too, but that’s spotty.
If you buy candy in the store, I’d wait for a holiday sale. I bought most of mine in the weeks before Memorial Day, and actually found awesome sales prices at Target. I also bought some items at Costco. If I could give any one piece of advice, I’d say definitely nix the color coordinating. Our buffet looked really bright and colorful, and we saved so much money. It would have been so expensive, and we would have had to buy all off-brand stuff, if we had gone the color coordinated route.

- Wedding: October 2010 - The Atlantic Beach Club
My Sister did a candy bar and got almost all of the jars at TJMaxx, Marshalls and Home Goods. They were sooo much cheaper than other options. They also get new stock each week, so if they dont have it right away, theyll probably have more in te future. I think she had the best luck with HomeGoods though.

I second the thrift stores. I have seen a ton of them. Also check in the section where they have the flower vases because sometimes these can be mistaken for wide mouthed vases. Might want to ask your family because once I started probing everyone in my family seemed to have candy dishes- all different cool kinds of crystal that some got as wedding presents back in the day.

I did some end of the season flea markets. I got about 3 or 4 from there. I also found a few at the Christmas Tree Shops. I’m just slowly gathering, hoping I stumble on them, because I don’t want to spend more than $1-2 on each jar! And I haven’t so far!

Thanks for all the tips! It sounds like the slow and steady route will work out the best. I’m headed out craft shopping with my mom tonight so hopefully I can get the ball rolling tonight!

I bought 8 from a girl on craigslist for $60. Then for the rest I used coupons at Michaels, Joanns, and Hobby Lobby. I also found some on clearance.
My mom said she saw some good priced ones at Home Goods (not sure if you have one near you).
You could always check on here in the classifieds. I plan on selling mine after the wedding. Depending on if you have to pay shipping (or if it local) it still might be a better deal. Some of those jars are expenisive.
As for candy we are making a few things, then we are going to Costco and Gordon Food Service and buying bulk candy. I also saw a couple a websites (can’t remember the names, sorry) that had good prices.

Check the dollar stores as well. They’ll all obviously be $1. Check resale shops as well. Goodwill/Salvation Army.
That candy bar makes me happy in that photo. They have a whole jar of banana Runts. I LOVE banana Runts!

Bees are the best! Now where do you get the candy bar sign?
