    Hello Fellow Bees,

So after some careful thinking I decided that I want to do a candy buffet. I think it will be really fun for everyone especially for kids. I was wondering what other bees used for their favor bags or boxes. Also what types of candy did everyone use?

I would love suggestions and pictures.

    Thanks!

I'm doing one, too, and I think I'm more excited about this than any other aspect of the wedding!

I recommend a variety of candy: chocolate, gummy things, sugar-free, old-fashioned candy, and suckers, but obviously the choices are endless.

I think the kind of candy is totally up to you.  Choose the kinds of candy you and your fiance like.  After you decide on the candy, one thing I'd suggest is to comparison shop.  I just compared prices between the bulk section in my local grocery store, some online bulk shops I've seen recommended on Weddingbee, and Amazon (which I never would've thought of before doing an online search) and the cheapest prices came from Amazon.

I'm doing white chocolate covered: pretzels and gummy bears, hersheys kisses, rock candy in pink, jellybeans in pink, gumballs, and lollypops. All in white and light pink I'm using big apothecary jars I found at Home Goods. I'm going to use Navy ribbons as an accent color on the jars. Maybe some more candy.

I posted this a few times, Im hoping it helps SOMEONE along the way!
"ok in regards to the candy buffet - all I really did was go to BJs the day before the wedding and grab and run lol. Saw something, thought itd be good, grabbed it. I had about 130 adults, 15 kids, and left with minimal candy. I did put glassine bags on the buffet, and people were walking around all evening with them. I did buy some specialty candy from Dylans candy bar (rock candy and siwrly lollipops and those stick candy like peppermint sticks...things that are hard to find) I have my BJs receipt in front of me, here is what I bought: (total: $166.05)

    1 bag of Starbursts

1 bag of those caramel cremes

2 bags of mini resses PB cups

    1 box of peppermint patties

1 bag of tootsie roll midgees

    2 bags of skittles

    3 bags of hershey kisses

    1 bag of peanut m&ms

1 box of Nerds Ropes (HUGE hit)

    1 container of Twizzlers

1 container of Crystal Light Sugar Free candies

2 bags of red Swedish Fish

1 box of 100 blow pops

    1 container of peppermint puffs

At Dylans candy bar I bought

20 Rock Candy sticks in various flavors

    2 bags of cotton candy

    20 stick candies

    5 giant swirly lollipops

    Had gifted to me

5lbs of white plain m&ms (unless youre going for monotone, go regular. Those suckers were EXPENSIVE!)

several bags of Buckeyes Candies (chocolate PB - an Ohio State Thing)

My venue provided the containers (score!) but found many of them at Michaels, Pier 1, ebay, and online.

They also assembled the buffet - but my hints are to keep one type of candy per jar so its not overwhelming to look at; scatter candy around the bases of the containers (so people arent afraid to touch it); use varying heights of jars AND the tablescape - they stacked something under the tablecloth to make sections of teh actual table higher and it looked incredible; dont overanalyze. I didnt even think about it. Just walked into BJs, grabbed, and left in about 15 minutes flat. There is such a selection its easy. I did read somewhere to be sure you have 8-10 different types of candies, and about 8-10lbs of each. I went over that, but we used it for favors as well as during the reception so we wanted to be sure we had plenty.

Oh - and to display the blowpops, I bought a large styrofoam cone from Michaels, painted it navy with Crayola Paint, and stuck the lollipops in there. We made a circle of them at the base so it wouldnt tip, then spaced them along the top and topped it with a giant swirly sucker. That is 100 blow pops in that cone!"

ill look for some pics now, and also we used glassine bags

I went to a wedding and they used tall skinny clear bags (found in the cake decorating area of Michaels).  Ive seen cute pics of people using linen bags, paper bags that they've decorated and small Chinese take out boxes.

KellyV your information is very helpful. I would love to see pics. I still worry about kids making a mess. For the most part the majority of the kids are 8 and up so I think it won't be too much of a problem. Did you have any problems with kids making a mess??

the only problem with kids that i have seen is they dont use the scoops and just stick their dirty hands right in the jars! lol. but im sure a little parental supervision could stop that.

we had a lot of kids at the wedding and they were all very well behaved.  The younger ones used their parents to get the candy, and the older ones all used the scoops.  There wasnt a huge mess of it, so Id not worry about that.  Here are some non pro pics of it

i would suggest having an attendant at the candy buffet which discourages people from misbehaving...

also, here's a calculation that i find handy...

(Amount of Guests) X (3)= (Total)/ (divide by 16) = YOUR ANSWER TO LBS. NEEDED.

@crebre - where is that calculation from?  Id disagre with it, only based on my experience. (PLEASE dont take that as a snotty comment, I just want brides to be sure of the amount they have!)  I had 145 guests.  By that calculation, Id need 27lbs of candy (145*3=435/16=27.1875.)  I had over 100lbs and we barely had any left at the end (MAYBE 5lbs, mostly m&ms)  Unless my guests are abnormal candy lovers Wink

@kelly: definitely not snooty!! i think it depends on the types of guests that you have... if they are younger and love candy then it's ON at the candy bar, if they are an older crowd this calculation will definitely work... the calculation is based loosely on experience (and if you have a candy attendant, they definitely won't take as much candy), so i advocate having candy attendants to fill the bag for the guests and assist them more, it cuts down on the amount needed.
