A lot of the favors I was thinking about could go on a candy buffet and thought it might but fun to just to candy buffet. As a guest what would you rather have.

I'd say candy buffet over a silly knick-knack...but what do you consider "regular favors".  I also love the personalized M&Ms (non-personalized is OK too!), any baked goodies, or donations.  I've only been to one wedding wtih a candy buffet though, and it was really fun.  The guests loved it!

By regular favors I mean like those picture frame coaster, bottle stoppers, candles, beer cozies. I wanted something different and things that would be liked by our guest. I keep coming up with food. I want to DIY as much of the wedding as possible so it was earier to come up with food but after reading some of the threads on here food seems the way to go. Then candy buffet came to mind would it be wrong it I just did a candy buffet as the favor.

I definitely vote candy buffet! It's such a fun idea, and even though everyone says it's "overdone" ... not everyone is immersed in the wedding world as we are...I'm sure alot of guests have never even heard of the idea.

I've been to dozens of weddings, and never attended one with a candy buffet. I think it would be awesome, since edible favors are almost always the only ones that actually get taken home by the majority of guests.

Personally, I vote candy buffet, but I know that my "older" family members would prefer something traditional in the form of a "regular" wedding favor.. I think it depends on your guest list!

Candy buffet, as long as there is a good selection of candy!  I'd love it if there were gummy options, for example.

@mouse- i'd never thought of gummis, great idea!!  i'm adding that to my list for my candy buffett.

another cute way that i was thinking of, to make it more personal, is place a card in front of each jar saying "(bride's name) favorite"  or "groom's favorite"  just to make the buffett a little more special and personal, not just candy.

I thought about the candy buffet but I could see it being a mess! My FI has a lot of children in his family and I can only imagine how crazy all the kids will be when they're hyped up on suger. Fellow bees that have done the buffet, what was your experience like?

Candy buffet! I'm not a fan of traditional knick-knacky favors. I never know what to do with them after.

Just to offer a slightly different opinion - I personally love non-edible favors..I think they are kind of like a souvenir...And if it's a useful item than that's even better!

Candy buffet!  Even though this is apparently super trendy int he wedding world, I've never been to a wedding that had one!  I would love it.  I dislike taking home knick knack favors -  I feel bad about it, but we always end up throwing them in the trash later.

Candy buffet!  Not to mention when it's all set up, it just looks so cool!  And who doesn't like candy? (well, alright, I'm sure there are a few peeps).

We had a candy bufet and it was a HUGE hit.  Everyone loved it, everyone took some (we provided sugar free candies as well - few diabetic friends and family) and everyone thought it was so creative.  Honestly, when I go to a wedding, I dont think "oooh I wonder what the favor will be!"

@he179103 - I can almost guarantee that the kids are going to be hyped up anyways (special event, music, cake, etc.) so I wouldn't worry about that, but I WOULD try to make sure they don't have free access to sticking their lil' hands in the buffet and chowing down, because that will equal a big mess! Maybe put it on a rather high table, or have a cute sign that tells the grown ups to help the little ones fill their bags.

I personally am a big fan of the edible favor! The knick knacks are cute, but honestly, I typically end up stuffing them in a drawer. Often they're not my style, or something that you'd typically buy in a set, or something I don't feel comfortable using with the bride and groom's name on them (i.e. a shot glass!)

PS...Love the 'bride's favorite' and 'groom's favorite' idea. If you wanted to take it further you could even have everyone in the wedding party, the MOB, etc., pick a candy to add!

love the candy buffet and the groom's and bride's favorites!! a lot of folks i know are doing that and i'm making the tags for them!  a twist is to do a dessert buffet with grandmom's apple pie, Mrs. Groom's Mom's chocolate chip cookies, Mrs. Bride's Mom pecan pie.

We did a candy buffet and it was a hit!  We had our venue coordinator set it up, and they covered it with a sheet til after dinner was served so it wasn't a free for all as soon as everyone walked in.  I think non-edible favors are hit or miss.  I know that if I'm given a favor I initially think it is cute but do not hold on to it.

We're thinking of possibly doing a candy buffet as well, as fiance and I <3 candy so much..hehe, plus, at least you know the guests will take some and eat it..i feel that sometimes favors just get thrown away depending on what it is...

As a guest I prefer NO FAVORS. Spend the money on something interactive like a photobooth or higher end liquor.

We just had ours, i've never seen adults act in such a manner, I wasn't sure what a hit it would be, everyone loved it, we were almost picked clean. People went nuts, I don't think it's overdone, only one or two of my guests have been to a wedding that had one. Plus it doubles as decor so total bonus!

O it was also our only favor, not one complaint!

Neither, really.  I don't use favors unless they're practical (playing cards, matches, beer coozies, pens, whatever) and candy doesn't appeal to me after a long night of dancing and drinking wine etc.  just mho.
