How about the Prince George ballroom? It was on a My Fair wedding episode and they had separate spaces. Plus with the right lighting you can get that gothic feeling.

Would you do a park wedding and then head to AOF?

@The Pumpkin Queen:

I was married at AOF this past December. I was having the same dilemma as you where I wasn’t sure if I wanted both the ceremony and reception in the same place. In the end, I did have both the ceremony and reception at AOF because I did not want to make it difficult on my guests, many of whom were out of town, to be trekking all over Manhattan in formal attire. Additionally, I saved a lot of money having my wedding here because the lighting designer, sound system, tables, chairs, ottomans, drapes, and much more were all included in the wedding package. I did not have to rent these items seperately which I know would have put a dent in my budget. I’m glad I had my event here, not only because the staff was so incredibly easy to work with and my event ran smoothly, but also because AOF does not receive any state or federal funding so I felt like my money was going towards something more. Congratulations and good luck finding your perfect space!

@The Pumpkin Queen: My only suggestion is that you avoid Castle on the Hudson!  They wasted weeks of our time after we agreed to a January 2012 wedding.  After we had given them a deposit, they tried to change the date and get us to pay more money because all of the snow/ice that we have had this winter scared them.  Sorry that I do not have any advice about the other venues but I just wanted to warn you about Castle on the Hudson.  Good luck!

@The Pumpkin Queen: Another AO bride!!  I’m so glad I stumbled upon this post. I’m getting married at AO on Sept 10th. Having both ceremony and reception in the same place is definitely a plus.  My next to-do is to find a florist. I think less is more and I’m hoping for lots of candles…with minimal flowes. I’m just scared to see how much this all might cost. I would love to hear what you plan on doing with the space.  Have fun planning!

@kmrivera: hi there. I’m getting married Sept 10 at AO and a starting the hunt for a florist. Can i ask who you used for decor and ballpark figure of what flowers/decor/rentals (china/flatware/glasses) cost? I’m not sure what to budget for all of this so any advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

I loved the venue when I attended a friends wedding there. It is a little less pretty in stark daylight but oh my word when the lights were turned on in the evening and the whole place was swaythed in pink and blue it was simply magical!! I was so inspired I drew them my friend this picture a gift (have been drawing personalised wedding venue pics ever since)She did have to do all the heavy legwork though as everything had to be rented or hired in which I could see was a lot of work. But I had a great time and loved the venue.
