My dress wasn’t your typical Destination Wedding dress but I got what I envisioned myself getting married in. I say go with what you love….you are the bride and can wear whatever you want!

We got married in St thomas on a roof top terrace overlooking the ocean then went down to the beach for pics afterwards. I wore a trumpet style satin dress…..I know satin isn’t your typical dress but like I said I and a firm beliver in wearing what you love!

What style are you looking for? If you are unsure of where to start I’d suggest browsing maggie sottero and mori lee website…..2 good designers and both reasonably priced!

Don’t think too much about what is a “destination wedding” dress.  Wear what you WANT and what you LOVE. I wore a satin tulle gown at my beach wedding and it made for great photos!!

Through many date and venue changes we finaly settled on a garden wedding instead of destination but here are a few links to detination bridal gowns that I had looked at when we still had the beach theme in mind.

I am also not wearing a typical Destination Wedding dress, but because I didn’t want to overheat I found a dress I loved, and then went to a local dressmaker and had one custom made to look very similar but out of a light silk instead of a polyester satin. It’s been a great experience for me. It’s not totally done yet but here’s a pic of me in the dress that it’s based on (though I changed it from a mermaid to a fit and flare, added a black sash and shortened the train).

We got married last May in Montego Bay Jamaica and I did not wear a “typical” gown either.  (Sorry I switched computers at work and this is the clearest picture that I can find).  My dress is Maggie Sottero Nova (if I had to do it all over again I would buy Divina in Bluch – that is so me plus there weren’t lots of colored dressed to pick from when I was looking!!!)  I agree with the others – you should wear what makes you happy, not what you are expected to wear.  My dress was an organza tulle material.  I wont lie – I was warm, but thankfully there was a strong breeze helped keep me cool.  I have no regrets on my dress.  I loved it and I wish I could wear it again this May!!  (BTW This dress did have a long train but I wore it bustled up…)  Happy Shopping and good luck – let us know how you make out!
