Hisbride2015:  A contract is a contract. Both sides have agreed to provide or buy a service. I’m quite sure the linen rental contract contained a clause about a cancellation fee. You may just have to pay it.

I’m not sure what she is talking about when she says “her money”. Did she pay the deposit on the linens?

I would have a serious talk with your planner. Did you give her a copy of our venue contract? If so, she should have known that you would not need to rent linens from an outside vendor. It could be argued that she has some responsibility for this additional expense if you get stuck with a cancellation fee.

I am going to assume your linens were to have special or custom in some way. Your wedding planner probably purchased them in bulk from a retailer that doesn’t offer exchanges or returns. So your planner will be out what she paid for the linens.

What ever she charged you for the linens, was probably at a mark up from what she herself paid for them. $700 seems like a lot for linens.

Hisbride2015:  It is pretty standard to be charged a cancellation fee if you cancel a contract.

Your wedding planner should have read the venue contract so that she was aware of what services and products they were provided for the fee they charge, and so that she was aware of any restrictions on outside vendors. She should have pointed out to you that you needed to rent linens from the venues’ preferred vendor list.

Hisbride2015:  Not your problem. From now on make payments as scheduled.
