I've tried so many times and searched and searched for help. All I can find is trouble shooting Q&A, no email address or number to call for help.

All of my in-laws have had this problem as well. There used to be a help email account, now it's nowhere to be found. The system automatically rejects our last name.

If anyone knows what to do, please let me know! I feel totally robbed of a rite of passage :(

You can change your name by going to Account in the upper right corner, then Account Settings, then Name.  You can't change the username on your address though.

@MissAsB:Thanks, but I've tried that many times. The system automatically rejects my new last name, just like it did for all my in-laws. There used to be an email address for help which they all had to use, but now there is nothing

You can submit a name change request through the "Name" section of your Account Settings page. Please note that Facebook reviews each name change request that is submitted. Due to the volume of requests we receive, your request may not be processed immediately.

Please note that Facebook account names must adhere to the following authenticity standards:

    • Your full first and last name must be listed. Nicknames can be listed if they are a variation of your first or last name, but only in the format "First Name ‘Nickname’ Lastname."
    • Accounts are for personal use only. To represent a celebrity, business or brand, please create a Facebook Page. Pages are for representing a real public figure, artist, brand or organization, and may only be created by an official representative of that entity. For more information about Facebook Pages, please click here.
    • Professional and religious titles are not allowed in account names.
    • You can list your maiden name as your alternate name on the Account Settings page. Please note that account names that include "was," "nee" and "formerly" are not allowed.
    • Accounts can represent one person only. Accounts representing groups, families or couples are not allowed.

Facebook reviews every name change request before it is approved. If your name change request is rejected, it could be because our systems have mistakenly prevented the change. If your real, full first and last name has been rejected, you can submit your request for further review by clicking here.

**This is directly from FB, the last link looks to be what you need :)

I changed my last name, as well as my email address/username - I garantee that there is a way to do it..

My email worked instantly, while the name change took one day before it happened.

It took a friend of mine about a month to get her named changed on FB and that was after sending numerous emails to them.  Eventually they will do it but you have to continue to bug them about it.  They never did explain to her why it took so long...

I agree that you should keep emailing help about it.  There is probably a block on it because you kept trying to change it and the system is probably blocking it as spam.  You just need to get through to a real person.

Thanks, but there is no way to email them. It's not because I keep trying to change my name, the system automatically rejects my name. It happened to all of my in-laws. It's the actual name. It really makes me angry b/c it's not such a strange name, it's polish and not a bad word or anything.

A girl I went to college with works for FB.  I don't think she's involved with the tech end (was a business major), but she may at least be able to push your request through?  If you're interested let me know, and I'll PM you her FB email address.

Is there anyone on FB with that name at all? Maybe some people have figured out a way to get through the system and you could message them to ask them how they did it.

Or, if it is a Polish name, and Polish users are able to use it successfully, maybe you could change your language setting to Polish, change your name, and then change your setting back to English? Maybe the banned names are language dependent.

@twalila:Thanks, thats a really nice offer but I'm hesitant to bother your friend over this. I'm sure it isn't her fault FB is so hard to work though and I don't want to inundate the poor girl with my problems.

@chelseamorning:Yes, my in-laws who have accounts have the last name (including my husband of course) and they all had to contact customer service. That's back when there was an email address to contact someone!

I am in a really similar spot - except my problem is it's rejecting my maiden name (formerly my last name) as my middle name.  So I can't indicate to everyone my full name.  It automatically rejects it - and it's a very common word (opposite of old) and certainly nothing suspicious or foul.  I have gone through the same shenanigans of emailing the help...NUMEROUS times....to no avail.  I threw in the towel a while ago and thought maybe I'd try again.  For now, I just have my middle initial....and the new name definitely has thrown some folks off!  Good luck!  I'll keep you posted if I have a breakthrough - and please do the same!  Maybe you have to phrase the request the right way....like with veiled threats?  Kidding of course!  Sorry Facebook is causing you drama too!

@daydreamwanderer:You can't access a person through the forum. And it isn't that I'm trying to do it incorrectly, the system rejects my name so I need an actual person to go in and manually change it.

@ENDsoon:Yes, that is EXACTLY what is happening to me! I did find some kind of email box but it gave me an automated response with the SAME INSTRUCTIONS that were on the stupid forum!! I replied and said I had to have an actual person change my name so hopefully someone will read it!

it took me almost a month to get my name changed. since it states that it can take up to 24 hrs to confirm a name (so that it isn't something outrageous, etc) everyday at the same time i could attempt to change my name and email them through the "help" link.

finally i posted a status update that said "attn: facebook corporate, i don't know if you read these or not but please change my last name, i have been married for x amount of time and have attempted to change my name every 24 hrs"....now i'm not sure what finally did it but the next day my name was changed! i think what held it up maybe was that i know have 4 names...I combined my first and middle (since that is what i go by anyway), moved my maiden to middle and added new married name as last.

just keep trying...its frustrating because i know how excited i was to finally change it and it took forever.

It was easy for everyone I know who has changed their name. The only problems I am aware of are with the same name as mine - my husband and in-laws. My name means something violent in english so I can sort of understand why it might be blocked, but it's a polish name so it should't be. At least there should be someone to contact!

I've had friends with this issue, with the last names of Snowman and Ocean, apparently facebook didn't think they were real names.  Both of them got around it by putting a period somewhere in the name "Snowman."  and "Oc.ean" Another just put a random space in the middle of their last name.

If it is inappropriate in English just try putting a period in the middle of it, I know this isn't the best solution...but for right now I think it's your only one...

Ack!  I think Facebook instituted a new policy recently having to do with name recognition because there was a rash of people changing their identifiers to all sorts of crazy stuff.

I'm guessing that your new name, being Polish, includes what might look like unusual combinations of vowels and consonants?  Perhaps that's what's triggering the rejection?

I know someone who had a similar problem and will ask how she got around it.

I can't offer any advice (sorry!), as my name change was easy.  But it irritates me to no end that the OP is having this problem,  yet there are six profiles for someone named Ped O'Phile.  How does that get through?

it could be an issue with the actual name. I have a friend whose last name in "money" (literally!) and they kept rejecting his when he tried to go on facebook. He eventually spelled it "Moneyy" and they accepted that. If it's a kind of word that they might ban, try modifying the spelling.
