Okay so we've narrowed it down to either Mexico, Jamaica, Punta Cana in DR, or St. Lucia..

We want to go to a place where we can relax, have a candle light dinner, go to the spa, or be active and go zip lining, snorkling, hiking, dancing, etc...

Also, we like to tour the towns and museums or monuments and learn about the country's culture and history...

We plan on going in July and being there for at least a week..so that being said, what do you guys think?

I would go with St Lucia or Mexico, but check the historical weather for both, because it might be rainy season.

We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres for 5 nights and then Iberostar Grand Playa Paraiso for 5 nights for our honeymoon.  Both are just outside Cancun, adults-only, all-inclusive, great spas, great food, great drinks, amazing service.  Iberostar is close to the Mayan temples though we didn't do any excursions (we splurged on nice rooms, so while already spending a few hundred $ per day we didn't really want to spend more just to NOT be at our hotels--but we might go on an excursion if we go to either hotel again in the future).

I went to Punta Cana on a vacation with friends last month, and maybe it was just the hotel we stayed at, but we didn't like it anywhere near as much as the two hotels we stayed at on our honeymoon.  The town seems really run-down, there were lots of locals trying to sell us stuff everywhere we went on the property, and many of the hotel employees didn't speak English.  I hear Jamaica is also pretty "third world" (sorry to not be PC but that's just what I hear).  Haven't been to St Lucia but I hear it's lovely--I'd just be a little concerned about the weather there in July.

@Pomapoo:  Thanks for the tip! That was actually one of the hotels we were looking at in Mexico. Good to know you had a great time!

We went to Punta Cana for our honeymoon and LOVED it! I have also been to the Riviera Maya, but I think Punta Cana is a better honeymoon destination. We went snorkeling, parasailing, riding dune buggies, and ziplining, and also got to enjoy time on the beach and by the pool. Plus, it was significantly more inexpensive than all the other Caribbean desintations we researched.

We went to punta Cana for vacation a few years ago and it was amazing, but I don't know if its a good fit for you. Actually I don't know that any of the places you listed have zip lines. That would typically be in tropical places like Costa Rica. I don't think many Caribbean countries have the geography for that, but I could be wrong. But if that isn't necessary for you, I think I would pick DR or st Lucia. Any of those places should have snorkeling and dancing.

@alg0188:  You're welcome :)  They were both fantastic hotels.  PM me if you have any specific questions about either hotel, happy to answer any questions!

I vote St Lucia. We got married and honeymooned there last November. It was awesome. We went ziplinning, snorkeling and did several tours. You can hike the Piton mountains or pigeon island national park. Everything was awesome and everyone was so friendly. I loved it. Not sure  What your budget is. But because Mexico has such good Deals were just gonna go there for an anniversary trip this year

@spikeybride:  St. Lucia is my top choice as well (I've never been, but I've been researching it.)  Where did you stay and did you like it?  Also, did you go to any of the other islands while you were there?

This Time Round    December 2012   Canada / Wedding in the US South over Christmas Holidays

Out of this lot I voted for St Lucia... a lot better place politically, economically, for safety etc (but that also means that such a vacation will cost more)

The biggest factor for me when reading your post however, was the timing.  July in the tropics is going to be BEYOND HOT !!

(Not to mention you'll be smack dab in the midst of Hurricane Season... June 1st to December 1st)

Is there any way you could put off your Caribbean Honeymoon until the Winter months ???

@SavBride:  We stayed at the Sandals Grande. We loved it there . We didnt have enough time to venture out to any of the other islands. Theres so many excursions and things to see and do for such a small islands. Id recommend doing 2 resorts if you've got the cash and the time. Maybe stay at more quiet beach resort in the south for the first couple of nights (Ladera, Hotel Chocolat, Jade Mountain-really expensive, Stonefield, or Sugar Beach Viceroy. Then go to an all inclusive in the northern more touristy part of the island.
