I’m going to an all inclusive vacation with my girlfriends in a few weeks and while I’ll be crushed not to wear my ring for a week, I really don’t want to risk it getting lost/stolen.
Side note: I had my ring lost for a half a day last week and was pretty much convinced it was gone for good, and it was an awful feeling, so I don’t want to risk it again!
So, since my FI isn’t going with me, I still want to have a ring on my finger so I’ve decided to get a stand in. But I can’t decide what I want. I’m going to get a CZ. At first I thought I would get something bigger than my real e-ring just for fun, but now I’m afraid I’ll get feel major shrinkage when I put my real one on again. Which I totally don’t want because I LOVE my ring. Then I also toy with the idea of getting a black CZ for something totally different or a halo. But then I think I should get something that it similar to me e-ring so it won’t feel like I’m wearing a stand in. But then I think it’d be fun for something different that I normally wouldn’t go for.
So what did you Bees do? Did you get a stand in totally different from your e-ring or one similar. Which should I do? Just for reference this if my e ring

I think I’d go for something totally different but of an approximate size. The black CZ idea sounds great.

We’re getting my e-ring made custom so I’ve been looking for a stand-in to wear in the meantime. I’m getting something different. I love rose gold and pink stones. My e-ring will be a round moissy and platinum. I’m going to get an oval or cushion cz halo with a pink stone, either morganite or pink quartz, and rose gold. I’m hoping that since it is something I love anyway it will make me less sad that I’m not wearing my e-ring. Plus, I’ll be less likely to compare it to my actual e-ring since it is so different and fun rather than a replica or something similar.

I wouldn’t have a stand-in ering and I think if you’re going to wear a diamond-like stone because you feel unsafe while on holiday, the people looking to steal it don’t bring along a loupe.

I just ordered 3 stand ins from eBay. I stuck with solitairs like my Ering but picked rose gold (mine is yellow) because I always wanted it. I also kept the stone shape of round but went down to half the carat size. I could have gotten something the same size but I also didn’t want shrinkage
so my stand ins are a mix of similar and different

i’d get something totally different and fun so that you can wear it as a rhr at times afterwards.

personally, I wouldn’t spend money on a stand in ring and just leave my ring(s) at home.

Or just wear a ring you already have, if you’re worried about that “naked” feeling. No sense in spending money on a stand in ring.

My stand-in is totally different! Real ring is a princess diamond, stand-in is a cushion sapphire cz. It’s fun to switch it up sometimes 🙂 and it was inexpensive (like $35 with a coupon code) so like you I wear it when it could get lost/stolen/dirty. and I know what you mean about always wanting to wear a ring!

@CanadianBride456: None of my stand-ins look anything like my e-ring.

Thanks Bees for all your comments! I think I’m probably leaning towards a different one, but of similar size so I don’t get shrinkage.
@womanofsubstance: Yes, but if it does get stolen, I’d much rather have a cheap CZ than my expensive diamond. And it’d not like I’m afraid of it getting mugged from my finger, I’m afraid I’ll lose it in the sand, or it’ll get taken in the hotel room.

I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just wear your engagement ring. Insurance covers it being lost or stolen.

@ddhb2007: to most people, their rings have sentimental value – getting insurance money if it’s stolen is not exactly compensation.

The ring can also be stolen from your home when you’re on vacation, be blown away when a tornado hits your home, or be melted in a fire. There’s no 100% safe place for the ring, so I would wear it and enjoy it knowing that the insurance company would cover the loss.

@CanadianBride456: I hear you, but I still don’t understand why anyone would chance being mugged.
I live in a large North American city and wear my ring all the time. If I were concerned about my safety I would wear my plain gold band and not some flashy bobble.
I really wonder why anyone would buy a ring that might attract attention while away on vacation, unless it’s to fulfill a fantasy dream ring.
