Wow - I hate that contracted fee. Could you call the hotel to see if it's possible to get that waived if they need the rooms for other (non-wedding) guests? I'm pretty sure they aren't allowed to charge twice for a room (your fee plus if they book someone else in the room).
That stinks. Can you ask them to unblock the rooms? I hate how they make it your problem that your guests won't get organized and book their rooms. You still have time, so don't worry too much yet!
@goldilocks. Yes. once our deadline passes the rooms get put back in the hotel inventory - at the bottom. So potentially they could get sold and us not get charged - but at this point that's all I have left to hope for.
Any cash we get as wedding gifts will go straight to paying off this stupid hotel block!! What's more 2 of the 5 rooms are ourselves!!
That;s horrible. That's why we made sure to not have a contract on our hotel that rooms had to be booked or we paid.
That stinks. I would call and talk to the hotel and see if they can work with you. We ran into this when reserving our hotel blocks, so we opted out of not reserving the hotel we really wanted, and just blocked rooms a block further from the venue. Wish you all the luck
Oh no! Is there any way they can extend the deadline for you? Seems a little early to close it off already. I'm so thankful our hotel block did not require such a contract... so far we've have 7 out of 10 rooms booked by our OOT guests. Any unbooked rooms will just be opened to the public next week.
@ddubzz Unfortunately we'd be hard pressed to fill them if there was no deadline - our guests have chosen to stay at the cheap places (hey I don't blame them). For some crazy reason my family members want a hotel with outdoor pool - only the cheap hotels have outdoor pools.
Its a no win situation b/c the day everyone is getting into town is not discounted - due to not being in our contract and overbooked hotel. $355 for that one night.
Will the hotel work with you at all? I mean, you're relasing the rooms 30 days before your wedding - its not like you are keeping the rooms off the market.
Our hotel block was a courtsey hold, so we weren't responsible for the rooms if they weren't booked. Could your hotel switch you to this sort of a contract?
Maybe you can tell any guests that you'll pay the $30 difference for the last 4 rooms? $30x4 is a lot less than $120x4.

Yes I've posted on this before here.
There are 2 days left and we have only filled half of our contracted room block - 5 of 10!! I've tried nudging/encouraging/asking guests to stay at the one hotel thats most expensive (by $30) to be close to us and fill the block.
What else can I do? If not filled we owe the difference. think $119 x 4 = $476
