Hello fellow Bees,
My wedding is coming up in August, and need to order my dress ASAP. The problem is that I can’t make a decision between these two dresses! I’d had my mind made up, and heart set on the Allue 8966 for almost a year. The problem is that I’m a bigger girl and couldn’t find a store that carried a sample over an 8 therefore I couldn’t get in it to try it on. 🙁
Well over the weekend I found a bridal salon with an in house seamstress who opened the seams enough on the dress so I could get in it. I tried on a few, and felt great in the Allure 8966 (even did a happy dance that I was able to get it on!). The problem is that I tried on a ball gown (Maggie Sottero Juliette) just for the heck of it since I thought the fabric was sooooooooo pretty and just FELL. IN. LOVE. The problem is that I’m scared it makes me look bigger than I really am.
I swing back & forth because I didn’t think I wanted a ball gown but I’m absolutely in love with this dress and it just makes my heart SING. However – I don’t want to look like a linebacker on my wedding day! The Allure 8966 had been my dream dress all this time, and I still absolutely love it. But now I love the Maggie Sottero too. I will be honest and say that I think the Allure is probably more flattering since it doesn’t have as much going on around the waist, but the Juliette just felt like butter to the touch and made me feel like a princess. I just don’t want to be a princess linebacker.
My friends are no help as they are split down the middle and the ones that love the Allure dress HATE the Juliette on me. Where as the ones that think I should go with the Juliette also love the Allure. So I’m still torn. Please help!
Dress #1 – Allure 8966 (My original DREAM dress). Keep in mind the back is not zipped all the way therefore it will be more fitted around the bust once it is the right size.
Dress # 2 – Maggie Sottero Juliette.
Here’s a not so flattering side shot. I’m working my butt off to try and lose a decent amout of weight over the next 6 months, but I wanted to put it all out there for honest opinions.

@WifeyMartinez0823: Go with your gut, the first one is gorgeous on you! Flatters your body so well!

The first one is much more flattering. In my opinion, there’s too much… stuff on the second one.

I’m not digging the skirt on the second one. The ruffles are making weird spirals and whatnot.
The first one looks awesome on you!

I love the first one. I think the second one has too much going on and is not as figure flattering as the first one

The first one looks gorgeous on you! It elongates your body and makes you look taller.

You look way taller and slimmer in the first. if yiure losing weight, the secon done might work just as well but it’s a risk. If you dont care how you look, go ahead and chose the second if you wish but if you wanna look your best, theres no question that that would be no one. And it has been your dream dress anyway!

The first dress looks great on you! Definitely that one 🙂

I’m confused because I like and dislike things on both dresses. My itinial instinct was to tell you Allure was the best choice, but now I’m not sure anymore. Allure is more flattering to your body shape, because it hugs you all in the right places. It shows off your curves, and that’s probably why you love it so much. Juliette has a different shape, but in my opinion, gives you a smaller waist than Allure. What I didn’t like of this dress at first is that I thought the fabric was really busy. On the other hand, it’s also what makes it more interesting than Allure, because Allure is similar to many, many other dresses, while Juliette is a statement dress, from every angle. It looks unique, and you felt great in it.
I vote for Juliette. As long as you feel comfortable in your skin, because really, the only negative feedback you gave about that dress had more to do with your weight. Aside from that, it sounds like you’re in love with it, that you had ”the moment”, that the details in the fabric caught your eye from the beginning and that’s what you love about this dress. So I say go for it !

When you said ball gown, I was prepared to love the Juliette — until I saw photos of it and you in both of the dresses.
I far prefer the first dress on you. The Allure is stunning, and you look absolutely amazing in it! In my opinion, the Juliette just has too much texture happening. There is nowhere for the eye to rest.

Thank you so much for the comments and votes, ladies! I really need to make a decision and place the order this week to ensure I get my dress on time. My vision this whole time has been to have a dramatic bottom which I’m getting with both dresses. I absolutely adore both dresses, but I think I like the top better on the bottom dress (juliette). I do think the long line of the first dress is more flattering, though. I’m wondering if I can have the top of the Allure dress altered a bit to look more like the bottom dress. Does anyone know if I can order it that way or have extra fabric added to the bust line during alterations?

Honestly? The second one makes you look SOOOO short and is not flattering at all.
You look AMAZING in the first!

@NauticalDisaster: You literally read my mind as far as my concerns and likes for each dress goes. There is a mini corset at the top of the Juliette dress which I think makes my waist look a bit smaller, and I LOVE that its so different – but it is a bit busy when you first look at it which I think turns people off. For me the mini corset and neckline pulls my eyes up which makes me happy, but I’m terrified of that side view.
