Can we wave a wand and make everyone stop fighting?
Maybe Ollivander's has one?
Seriously, though - should I keep planning? I'm not booking anything right now - just researching - but if it's all gonna be for nothing I'm going to be even more disappointed.
Mr. S and I had plans to go to Thailand last December (2008). We had to cancel the trip at the last minute because the airport was taken over.
The whole situation there really sucks. Even before it started getting violent, it was crippling the economy (which is creating more unrest and a more dangerous situation). Honestly, I would plan a different honeymoon; it all seems to be at a standstill (although you do have 10 months... *maybe* things will be better soon enough to plan something?).
I am getting married in Thailand in August!
Trust me, I am hoping things calm down. I am keeping an eye on things, but not worrying yet. I really think things will be fine next February.
AHH! Our original plans were to get married June 5th (YAY) and then head to Thailand on June 8th for a month for our honeymoon. Now we are having to rethink everything. It totally sucks. We keep checking the travel forums and news to see if the situtation gets better. But right now it looks like Thailand is heading to civil war.
I think that if you are planning for the fall you should keep planning and make sure to get travel insurance. Most of what people have said to us is that normally these things dissolve after a bit of time. Unfortunately for us it looks like this won't be ending in the next month but it could be over by the end of summer.
We are planning to make a decision within the next two weeks about whether we will go or not. Most likely we will not go on our month long trip. Total bummer but we would rather feel safe.
Now we are starting to look fro good deals for a week anywhere with beaches. If anyone has any suggestions for where to go in June I would love it!!
Miss Watermelon, what about other parts of SE Asia- Bali, Vietnam and malaysia all have nice beaches.
I love Thailand and that is why I chose to get married there so i am really hoping things get better soon.
@cakegirl Thanks for the tips. We may not travel as far and have started looking at the Carribean. Hopefully all will be well by the end of summer.

Not to minimize the severity of the civil unrest and violence currently occurring in Thailand, but I was planning on honeymooning there in February and now I'm having to rethink the entire thing. There's tourist alerts/warnings/whatever they are out and the tourists there now are being warned to stay at their hotels. It started out just in Bangkok and now it's spreading to other areas.
It's been my dream to do two weeks in Thailand next year and now I'm concerned that it's not going to happen. It's not like I can predict whether it will get better or worse there. WTF. What do I do? I'm really disappointed.
Somebody wave their magic world peace wand and make everyone stop fighting.
