Ours doesn't allow sparklers either. So we'll either be doing bubbles, petals or glow sticks. It stinks cause I really love the sparkler exit pictures!
Ours didn't either and we were so bummed! We opted out of a grand exit. It turned out that since the reception was over at 11pm, most people were leaving by 10pm with only us hardcore drinkers/dancers/socializers being left anyways.
We did glowsticks. Honestly, the pictures aren't as amazing as sparkler pictures. Here is one of ours. Plus, we were carrying out stuff so it didn't look as magnificent.
Awww that sux! Oriental trading company has a lot of glow sticks www.orientaltrading.com
I really want to do the sparkler exit too! Our contract doesn't say anything specific to the use of sparklers. I really really hope they will allow it.
if you have time for some serious DIY for your guest.. Or just have them for your bridal party like in the pic? That is a serious bummer about sparklers, but ribbons would look awesome in photos!

Aw that's a huge bummer! Why won't they allow it? I guess you're doing a night departure... hmmmm...
Okay what about something like this: http://www.bewild.com/15fiopwa.html
We used eco-fetti! It was fun, but I had it all down my dress! I think this photo is hysterical too. :)
i dunno about the glow sticks....it doesnt seem very bridal to me lol. I personally am gonna use confetti, hopefully the pictures will come out nicely.
I think the problem with confetti is that it's sort of hard to see when it is dark out if there isn't a lot of light around.
The airplanes would TERRIFY me. I don't even want to think about getting poked in the eye with one. Bloodshot eyes= not sexy.
Is this for when you walk off from the ceremony or after the reception ends? I am confused
You can do it either way. We did ours at the end of the reception because we had the ceremony and reception at the same location. But if you have them at a different location, you can have a send off after the ceremony if you then going to the reception location.
All exit things come with a warning. I have had nightmares about being pelted with rice and although the sparklers are cool, what about burn holes in the dress?
I just like origami. I think I might take the paper airplane idea though and move it over to my kids reception baskets for some fun!
I do like the ribbon idea! Do they have to be DIY? Or can you buy some somewhere? & yes this is for the grand exit, after the reception is done and over with!! :)
You could have a ll of your guests release balloons. A far away shot from the videographer of you, your FI, your guests, and balloons in your wedding colors might look really nice.
I would try etsy if you don't want to make them yourself:

glow sticks would be okay, but they will only look good in pictures if your photog uses a time capture setting. But it might be a little "rave" feeling.. I like KM's fiber optic light idea! Though you would probably still need a time capture for that too.
Oh Lees! I feel for ya! I showed FH some awesome sparkler sendoffs and he just went "two words. Wood. Deck". I was like "oh". Even if the venue did allow us to use them we use pyrotechnics during work anyways so we would feel so uncomfortable if (god forbid) anything did go wrong.
I love love love the ribbon idea though. It's so cute!
That is a huge bummer, I love the ribbons though. We were very lucky as I have 2 family members that are pyrotechnicians and our reception hall was very accommodating so we had a whole fireworks display. I love fireworks!
@Leese - Check out this link you can personalize them! (I think it's a pretty good deal! You can get them in yellow too...) I think your photographer will be able to catch them nicely in the dark.
We used streamers from SEO Magic (it was their sweet flash streamers) and it looked fantastic! The streamers attached to your hand so cleanup was under five minutes.

One of my best friends got married in Hawaii last summer and she used sparklers. It looked AMAZING, yes, in photos. But- her dress got a burn hole in it. And the smoke alarm went off. And we all went running away from the gorgeous resort (the one in Forgetting Sarah Marshall). So, while sparklers are cool and dramatic and everything, this is the end of the night after some potential drinking from guests. I vote for some of the sparkler alternatives, and I bet my friend would say the same!
@timiny: those streamers are awesome! Did you get one for everyone? They seem like they could get costly very quickly
You all should check out this Etsy shop! http://www.etsy.com/shop/ExtravagantExits
She has streamers (which I used), lanterns, ecofetti, etc!
We're not allowed to use sparklers, either, and I was worried that bubbles wouldn't show up at night. But then I Googled images of "wedding bubbles at night" and the pictures look amazing! We have an incredible photographer, so I'm definitely going with bubbles!

The venue we've chose won't allow us to have any type of firework, & this included sparklers for our grand exit. Our wedding planner has given us the option of glow sticks (which I thought would be a neat idea) but I wanted to know if any of you bee's had ideas!!
Thanks ladies :)
