I used a wooden box I bought from Michaels and stained it a "coffee" colour. I had a flower attached to a ribbon and wrapped it around the front, and then found a little bird wooden cutout and painted it with chaulkboard paint, and wrote "Cards" on it and stuck it next to the box :) I will find a picture of it when I get home.
Here's my card box. I definitely wanted something other than a birdcage, and I loved this!
How about a rustic/antique treasure box or something cute like that.
I like PP's DIY box too!
I'm using a vintage Cape Cod Cranberries crate. It goes perfectly with our vintage/rustic wedding, and ties in a very important part of our life, the Cape! :)
I am personally using a birdcage, but I love the idea of an antique suitcase.
Also something else I had for my "guestbook" but I've seen a lot of people use it for their cardbox - a mailbox!! I had a giant copper one made for us, but I've seen beautiful antique ones used too!
@HBBride: What do you think of something like this?

@beachchicbride: I did a Google search and found it on this website:

It looks like it would be fairly simple to do! Here's another similar one with instructions on how they did it:
Ohhh - I love the idea of DIY Cardboxes...didn't really think of the detail before but I definitely am now! Can't wait to go to the local craft store and look at possible candidates :)
Haha. We turned a black mailbox into a cardbox monster, complete with big furry arms, teeth and big googly eyes.
Obviously, that's not for everyone. What about something like this?

I like the beach lantern idea above. My only concern would be it might be hard to 'lock' the lantern so no one(guests or staff) walks away with any cards.
I originally wanted to use a large birdhouse with a slot in it so people could put their cards in our new "nest" but I didn't find anything I liked. Instead we used a wishing well and put flower lights on it:

@zippylef: I just thought (from your post) that doing a cardbox frog would be cute if we could paint the frog in our wedding colors (apple green and dark purple) considering how much we love frogs and how cute and unexpected this would be...wonder where I am find a template of that online!

Hi Ladies! I was wonderinf if anyone had any creative ideas for a card box besides a birdcage. The birdcages are cute, but they're at almost every wedding and really don't go with my theme (I'm having a boardwalk theme). Any ideas?
