Not sure where to post this so I picked the beehive! It just occurred to FI and me that we need something to put cards in if people bring them to the wedding. Honestly, I’ve seen some pretty card boxes on here in the DIY section, but I am pretty over the whole thing and do not feel like taking on another project only to abandon it when I realize I can’t make it as perfect as I want or realize I am in way over my head (ummm hello brooch boquet FAIL). So – what has everyone else used who had a card box? Oh – I should also mention that the wedding is in less than 3 weeks and I do not want to spend $100 ordering something from Etsy and I don’t have time to really shop around at this point. Did anybody just use a basket or something? Our wedding isn’t really vintage (i’ve seen some with like suitcases or trunks, but that won’t really go with our style). Our wedding is fairly traditional – no real THEME so I am just not sure how to do the card box thingie!!! Anybody do something simple like just a basket? What kind of basket? (Also should mention I really don’t like the mailbox things – just not for me!) Please post pictures of what you did if you have any!

You can try looking for a decorative birdcage, like this:

@OliveT: Sometimes places that have wedding rentals will have card holders you may rent. Or Walmart’s website has a white birdcage cardholder by Wilton for less than $20, you could buy it and thread a very simple ribbon around it in a color that coordinates with your wedding or even take it to your florist and ask her to whip up a bow for the top and attach it.

I was in Joann’s the other day and they had a white birdcage looking one that was cute. I don’t recall the price but don’t think it was too much and you can always use one of their 40-50% off coupons.

Oriental Trading has some. One’s $.79 if you like snowflakes 🙂

Michael’s always has some cute boxes that are in the $20 range. That would work, then the only DIY you might need to do if you wanted would be to print out something that said “Cards” and somewho affix it to the box.

i bought the plain satin box from joanns. michaels also has them. it was $29.99 plus i had a 50% off coupon.
i had a bottle of martha stewart craft paint that works on fabric so i painted it to match my wedding colors and will add a bow when i get around to it.

Thanks ladies…. I am going to go check out Michael’s and JoAnns and see if I can find anything I think will go. I kind of like the look of a little wooden box – like a small treausre chest kind of thing, or maybe a birdcage – something simple where all I would have to do is tie a little ribbon and put a sign that says CARDS. Like I said, some boxes people have made are really nice – I just don’t have the time or energy to embark on that at this point! 🙂 Appreciate all the input!
