Miss Cola made one out of hat boxes - I'm going to try to do something similar but I wouldn't even try to make something as detailed as hers - which came out soooo frikkin cool - I just suck at DIY so I wouldn't attempt it. Here's her link:

I might just be a sellout & buy a used cool birdcage at a 2ndhand store & spraypaint it.
Hi there! I made my own :) I used boxes I had all over the house to make a 3 tier cake type box. I wrapped it using wrapping paper and added some embellishments. Here are some good links to DIY projects and ideas from others in the hive:

I second what Lamb says- use boxes that you have all over the house, or you can buy paper mache boxes from craft stores. I like using pretty paper to cover the boxes.
I think the necessities are PVA glue (if you mix up half PVA and half Methyl Cellulose it is even better, because it increase the drying time so you can fix mistakes), a sponge brush or wide paint brush, and a bone folder to smooth out wrinkles.
I stamped "card box" onto paper and also covered monogrammed letters for the top.
Hope this helps!
I made my own out of picture boxes. I don't have any pictures during assembly though....
I couldn't find a big deep box, so I used two shallow ones. I wrapped the base with wrapping paper and cut a fairly large hole in the lid then wrapped that as well.
For the next box, I cut a hole in the base the same size as the hole in the lid of the box it will sit on and then wrapped it. For the lid for that box, I used the smaller box as a template to cut a hole, then wrapped it.
For the top box I cut a hole the same size as the whole in the lid of the box below it and wrapped with a different kind of wrapping paper. For the lid I cut a small whole that would fit a large card.
I then used some left over organdy and tulle and glued it to the two bottom boxes before I glued all the boxes together. Then I used ribbon and pearl strands to add some definition.
The flower is pieces of organdy, organza and tulle. To make the flower cut a flower shape out of the fabric. I think I used 16-20 pieces of fabric. I varied them, so they weren't all in the same pile. Then I folded them in half and then in a quarter and hand stitched along the fold. Here's a website that shows how to do these with pictures. Flower. I then made a bow with some leftover pearl strand and ribbon. Here's the finished product. Feel free to PM me with any questions!

I would like to make my own, but have no idea how to do so. What do I need? How do I go about making one? If you are making one or have made one, please share tips and ideas. Thanks
