depends on the shoe box! i have a coach one for flats that’s really narrow for instance that wouldn’t be appropriate, but i have a chinese laundry box for 5 inch heels that would probably work better. the key is, when the cards go in the top, will they slide easily to the bottom or will they have to be forced in? it may be wide enough, but the cards might not be able to make it all the way down because it’s too shallow.

I kinda think a shoebox is too small. However, you could stack two shoeboxes on top of each and cut a whole in between.

I personally think that would be way too small, but I like the idea of putting two together.

Yay! Please post pics when you’re done so we can all ooh and ahh over your craftiness.

Depends on how many guests you’re having and if they typically give cards. I had to make a 3 tiered one to fit cards for 120 people, and my bottom one was a man’s boot box as the base.

A friend of mine used a photo box from Michael’s crafts and it was too small. I had to empty the box twice during the early part of the night to make room for more cards.

I would definitely put two boxes together.  This way, the cards have plenty of space and are not crushed.  You’ll want to save several as keepsakes. Here’s what we did:

Here’s mine.  I took a really large shoebox (men’s shoes), turned it on its side, so that the top of the box was facing me.  Then I hacked a hole in the side that was facing the ceiling.  This made the box narrow from side to side when looking at it from above, but tall up and down and wide from side to side when looking at it from the side.  Anyway, enough rambling.  Here’s my box:

I was just going to use a basket? Do you think that I should get a box? We’re having 80 people at our reception.

@amyanne02: I’d never use a basket or anything that is open or easily removed. Do a search and see how many people have actually had cards stolen from their receptions. It happened to my BIL and there was nothing they could do about it…who wants to accuse family or friends? It could also be a worker at a wedding, so better to be safe and have them in something enclosed.
