I want to go back to school. I have been out of school for many years. I majored in Aviation maintenance in 1999-2000, got a job in my field but after 911 everything went down hill. I havent able to get a job in my field due to lack of experience etc. I received 60 credits from the aviation school that might/could be used for an engineering major. I suck at math. I was planning of applying to a community college, but i dont know if it would be worth it. Dont know if its better for my due to my age(34) and my situation, married with 3 young kids, to persuade something else, something that will give me more chances of getting a job, or should i keep trying and maybe with extra education i would have a better change of getting back on the aviation field. I always wanted to fix planes, i would love work on my major, but dont know if I will ever have a change of duing this. Any recommendations, i am open to anything, interships, re training, refreshmen classes etc/

I don’t think your credits will transfer anymore – most credits expire after a certain amount of years.
Can you get a job in a manufacturing plant, or make some connections at EWR? You could start with LinkedIn and maybe send out some emails to some people at nearby airports (don’t beg, just be professional and ask if they have any advice) OR even far-away airports – what the hell, email the head mechanic at LAX! Maybe they’ll have some good advice!
Alternatively, you could look at a place like Teterboro, which might be more likely to hire a mechnic’s apprentice or something. There are a few small airports nearby that might be worth looking into.
Also I might look into contacting any mechanic’s unions that operate in airports – they might have a good idea where and how you can start.

@brokeninnj: Start making some contacts! It helps to know the right people. Even if you have to do it online, just make the attempt – the worst that happens is your desired contact doesn’t pan out… you just have to try someone else!
