I am so sorry, that is a long time to be without your ring! I wear my ring 24/7, I almost never take it off. I’ve had it for 8 months, I’ve never damaged it but I have a protection plan and I get it serviced every six months, so I’ve had it done once plus again when I had it sized. I can’t imagine why your ring would get so damaged doing daily things, I wouldn’t say I’m exactly careful with mine!

it sounds like a problem with the ring, not with you, especially since the same diamond fell out twice.  maybe the halo was damaged when they sized it and that’s why it was coming out?  it seems ridiculous to me that you could chip the center stone.  the jewelry store told me i should be able to keep my ring on all the time – showers, sleeping, etc.

To me it sounds like an issue with the ring too.  I keep my rings on at all times apart from sleeping and showering.  I haven’t had any issues at all.  It is definitely worth getting your ring cleaned and inspected by the jewelry store you bought it from originally on a regular basis just so they can check the setting on all the diamonds.

@HisWifey2012: I take it off to shower (hey, I don’t want a diamond falling down the drain if it is loose! Also, Mr. Hedgie freaks if I do shower with it on) I take if off to do serious manual labor (ex: building things) or anything that could damage it. Dishes, cleaning stuff (I don’t want it getting too gross) but I do keep it on to work out. Just watch what your hands are doing and if it is a high probablility that you are going to knock you hand against something, it is safe to take it off.

My ring is about a half size too big (still haven’t gotten it sized yet and I’ve been wearing it since March.. yikes!).  Anyway, one night I was at a bar and I think the condensation from my glass made my ring even more loose than normal… I made a sudden movement with my hand and it FLEW off!  Thankfully my Fiance and his brother were able to quickly find the ring and there appeared to be no obvious damage.  I did notice a few days later that my band now has some scratches on it which I’m sure is from it’s rough landing on concrete.

I do always take it off when I sleep, shower, wash my hands etc.  However, as I said, it’s still too big so I’m slightly scared it’s going to come off and be lost forever.  My Fiance is buying my wedding band in the next week or so and I’m planning on finally getting my e-ring sized then.

I wear mine 24/7 and I’ve never lost or chipped a diamond. Within the first 3 months I noticed the center stone moved a hair (the jeweler was shocked I noticed because it was hard to see with a naked eye). But that’s only because it was originally set in prongs that were too small.

I wear my ring on an extremely limited bases, formal public outings at best. buy a stunt double if you are insecure to leave or do things without a ring on.

Also invest in a sturdy wedding band when the time comes, so you can wear it constantly without worry!

I’m all for the sturdy band… I figured I’d have this problem and all the more reason I got a “low profile” design. I love wearing them all the time.

I need to get my band resized because it’s digging into my prongs, so I’ll be without them for a while :-/

I hope everything gets worked out with your ring!

I dont know if there is anything that you can do differently. You cant change your whole life. Im sorry that you are feeling frustrated. I would be too!! But this is what we have insurence and protection plans for. I am a bad person to ask though, I wear my ring all day every day. I too had a stone loose. I took it in and told them one of my main stones was loose and the guy checked it and told me it was fine I insisted that someone else check bc I knew it was loose, and sure enough it was. i had to part with my ring for 5 weeks, but its all better now. It happened withing the first few months of being engaged. Nothing has happened since.I hope you get all of this figured out!!

You should have more options. I take it off only for showers, I keep it on for working out, dishes, cleaing etc. It has yet to be damaged. And honestly even if it did, I’d wear it still the same after it’s fixed.

I don’t mean to sound ignorant but how do they repair a chipped center stone diamond? I was under the impression that they can’t repair cracked diamonds.
