@firemedic:  I agree, St Lucia was WAY overrated!

We went on a 7-day cruise embarking/disembarking from Puerto Rico, then made stops in St Thomas, Barbados, St Kitts, St Lucia, and St Maarten! At the end of the trip, we spent three more days in Old San Juan in Puerto Rico, which feels like the most gorgeous, safe place in the world!

What are you looking to do?

I ask because Aruba is all relaxation. Not really alot of excursions, but it is beautiful and you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine because their annual rainfall is less than 12 best friend went there and loved it. She stayed at the Riu. But she is not into excursions,

Jamaica is nice, if you go, stay in Negril or Ochios Rios. Yes, you will be farther away from the airport, but it will be worth it and the beaches are nicer.I stayed in Montego Bay and wish I had stayed in Ochios Rios or Negril. If you go to Jamaica, please do yourself a favor and do the Dunn’s River falls excurision. Its the most beautiful thing. Its a 900 foot waterfall, and you climb up the waterfall. (Its not that bad- it sounds extensive but when you’re done, you are like “thats it?) and the water is sooo refreshing!!!!! One of the guys that was on the excursion was 250Lbs. If he can do it, so can i and so can you! LoL

Los Cabos & Cancun are nice- but are you looking to party hardy? I don’t feel its very romantic.

@firemedic:  I’ve been to quite a few Caribbean destinations over the years (Bahamas, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, Aruba, Barbados, and Dominica.  I’ve also done Key West FL, which has a cool tropical feel to it, although the beaches aren’t great).

I think of all of those places my favorite was St. Thomas.  The beaches were amazing and I loved that the island was green with vegetation and mountainous, so that while you’re sitting on a beach you see the blue of the water, the blue sky, and the green mountains.  AMAZING.  However, St. Thomas is probably going to be one of your more expensive options.

In the Bahamas, we stayed at The Atlantis in the main towers and it was GORGEOUS.  Perfect for a honeymoon, but only if you can afford it.  It can get quite pricey from what I hear (I was a teenager when I was there), but I had a blast on that trip and can imagine it being extremely romantic as an adult.

I also really adored Barbados…the people there are incredible, and we spent some time at a beach bar that had swing ropes out into the ocean, trampolines in the water, etc.  We had the perfect day there.

If Mexico is a possibility, I absolutely recomment the Iberostar resorts at Playa del Carmen (we stayed at Paraiso del Mar).  They’re all-inclusive and gorgeous with fantastic food and beautiful views.  There are a number of off-premesis excursions but there are tons of things to do on the resort.  If I hadn’t already been there I’d think it would be an amazing spot for a honeymoon.

Really it’s just about figuring out what you want to do and doing some research.  Interested in diving and coral reefs?  Try the BVI.  Try Aruba or Barbados for the best beaches.  Puerto Rico or Jamaica for amazing culture and nightlife (or so I hear).

For our honeymoon I think we’re looking into Hawaii but it’s so expensive getting there from the East Coast…. if we wind up doing Caribbean I’m thinking Jamaica (apparently one of the most affordable islands) or St. Lucia, which I know is not an option for you.

@Nic01:  A little shopping, I got my picture taken with a monkey, and we took a free shuttle to the Mariott (the nicest beach on the island)! The beach was great, but the local area outside the port was pretty skeevy!

I just posted my honeymoon recap!

We are going to Couples Barbados for 10 days in October. Neither of us have been to a Couples resort, but have heard nothing but great things. I am SO looking forward to it!

Two of our agents were in Jamaica the first of June, and saw a dozen or so hotels while they were there. They both raved about Couples Sans Souchi. They’ve really done some nice updates to that resort. It’s very intimate and romantic. And it’s very affordable as well!

There are so many fun things to do in Ocho, such as zip lining, Dunn’s River Falls, and more. If you want a destination where you can go outside the resort and engage in some outdoor activites, Ocho is a great destination.
