I think this sounds like SO much fun.  Here are the things I would consider though:

    1) How much would this cost?

    2) How long would you have them at the reception for – the entire thing or just a part of the night?

    3) How many guests do you have attending?

    4) How many people would be able to have one done in the alloted amount of time?  I feel like a cariacature takes a while.

For example:  You are going to have them drawing caricatures for 2 hours and it takes about 20 mins./ caricature.  That means only 6 people can have caricatures done.  <<This is not based off of any facts and I have no idea how long it actually takes, but that would be something I would take into consideration.

Also, I don’t know if you need the photobooth and the caricatures.  I mean if you want to and can afford it, go for it!  I’m very frugal and would only do one or the other.  I do think the caricuture idea could be fun and unique though.

We are doing this!!! I can’t wait! Ours said she can do about 8-10 per hour, of course it depends on how quickly people come over- get a good way to organize like having a sign up list so that people get ready for their turn and there aren’t twenty minutes where they aren’t being used. I think it is much more unique and different than a photobooth. Here’s a few examples from our caricaturist:

Such a great idea! I’ve never had my caricature done, mainly because I’m too cheap, so this would be a great experience for people like me to finally get one done!

If there’s a sign up sheet will you (or someone else) have to be constantly tracking people down because it’s their turn? That wouldn’t be good.

MrsGatito:  Our caricaturist uses the sign up sheets, she says it is way more efficient. She goes by who is standing there, though. If there is a couple signed up next, and they aren’t right there waiting, she crosses the name off and they have to sign up again. Apparently it works wonders because people will see where they are on the list and check by once in awhile to see where they are, and usually no one gets crossed off. The ones that do get crossed off and have to wait for the next spot are really good about it and make damn sure they are there next time.

MissLibra:  That’s good then! I wasn’t sure how it would work if the list was long and someone went off to dance and didn’t check back. That sounds like a good system though.

I was at a wedding last year that had a caricature artist, and it was great! He was really good, and took about 5min for each drawing. Go for it!

I’ve seen this done a lot on 4 weddings and the guests seem to really like it! You could use them for your favours as well if you wanted.

mumkin:  I went to a wedding with one, and it was a really great idea, and the guests seem to love it.  My only ‘warning’ would be that guests waited in line to get theirs done, and because they were waiting in line, it kept them off the dance floor, and away from the reception!
