I’m planning a small wedding (~20 people) in LA near Christmas. I live in Ohio. I really don’t want to spend a lot. Like at all. Like maybe a few thousand. I’m also not picky, I just want a place to stand and say my vows thats accessible for elderly guests and has protection from possible (while unlikely) rain. I’ve racking my brain over this and think I may have finally found a spot… but I want your opinion!
I’m considering the Santa Monica Pier Carousel. See weddings here: http://stephengrantphotography.blogspot.com/2009/05/i-do-wedding-of-marcus-amanda.html and http://offbeatbride.com/2009/06/santa-monica-pier-wedding.
- cost is only $200/hr after 7 pm
- appears to have indoor space
- has some chairs/tables available
- soda jerk inside the building will cater hot dogs/hamburgers and ice cream for a low cost
- not sure if spot is an issue if it rains
- not available until 7 at reasonable price (and since I’m doing this in December it would be cold and dark)
- not sure if the food would be good
Other considerations: I could potentially be really outside the box and just do dinner at a restaurant BEFORE the ceremony. Then just have the reception be ice cream at the soda jerk stand.

thats a cool venue– i would do dinner before the ceremony at a nice resturant with cake and icecream after the ceremony. the timeline is out of order but with the amusement park location i think people would have fun…
would you have access to all the rides? or just the marry go round

only thing is what would you wear to dinner if you dont want to show off dress before the ceremony??

I love this idea! And the pictures of the other weddings look great. If you don’t mind people seeing you before the actual ceremony (they are going to see you at some point, right?) I really like the idea of doing dinner before and having the fun reception after with just dessert.

@CatABee: @asianyoushi: @asianyoushi: Thanks ladies! We’re keeping everything pretty informal so I don’t really mind people seeing me beforehand, but I AM worried about getting food on my dress before the ceremony!

I think it would be a fun and memorable wedding.

@lindseyl06: I LOVE the venue! I had a nontraditional/casual wedding, too. We didn’t eat before the ceremony, but we did go to lunch right after, break for a couple hours, and then had drinks, then dinner. I love the soda jerk stand idea! Can you find food reviews online? Also, you can just get married earlier, go out to dinner, and then go to the carousel for your dessert/reception if you’re not feeling the soda jerk stand for dinner. However, depending on how casual you want it to be… hotdogs and hamburgers at the amusement park? Flippin’ awesome idea! Makes me wish I had eloped to a carousel and not to Reno… :/

That is an awesome location! I love the idea of dinner before the late ceremony, so smart! And ice cream after would be awesome, I’d be skeptical about fair food too but I’m sure the ice cream will be good!

That sounds like SO much fun, I would seriously love to attend a wedding like that! I love the idea of dinner before the ceremony, the down-to-earth food, and with the pier you have built-in entertainment afterward!

@viola47: getting married earlier kind of defeats the purpose of the carousel. The main reason I want it is to have a covered space for the ceremony. For some reason thats hard to find!

@MsSunshineBee: if you could have a night time wedding going dtraight into the evening i’d say do it the venue is awesome and the pictures would be awesome, i suppose if you aren’t traditional you could all go for dinner before the ceremony.
