My apartment lease is up and I want to rent a rug doctor from Publix to clean the carpets before giving my landlord the keys. I heard instead of using the expensive rug doctor brand cleaner you can just use laundry detergent. Anyone have experiencwe with this?
Also, there are a couple stains from my dog going to the bathroom (I did clean it up right away but you can still see the stain a little bit) Any recommendation on something to put on that before using the carpet cleaner? Or should the carpet cleaner take out the stains?
Thanks in advance for your help!

We just did a big cleaning of our apartment with a rented Bissel cleaner from Lowe’s and, for me, I’d just get the $20 bottle of cleaner. That’s what the machines are designed to work with, they have ones that are specially formulated for pet stains, and one bottle will last you for a long time.

@Mrs.KMM: Thanks for your response. I only have one bedroom with carpet so I didn’t want to waste money and buy the entire bottle. But I would rather spend an extra $20 on the bottle of cleaner than be charged by the landlord for a new carpet! Thanks!
