Had this discussion with a friend and thought I’d bring it to the hive…..
If someone were to ask the bride if they’d prefer cash or a gift off their registry, is it ok to say cash would be great? I know you shouldn’t blast it everywhere you’d rather have cash, but if they’re asked ???

For sure. I was asked a handful of times and said “Fi and I are saving towards our first home” and most people got the hint.
But I equally loved getting registry items, because even if I had the cash in hand and I wanted the item, I probably wouldn’t ever splurge on it. So I got a lot of items that we really love to use!

If someone asks, sure, but in most circies, it’s considered rude to solicit cash gifts.

@Golden Ticket: If you’re asked, I think an honest but demure answer is fine. As in,
“Oh, we’ll love whatever you choose! After the wedding we’re going to put our focus on saving for a house (or whatever) so if we do receive any gifts of money, we’ll use it toward that.”

If I was directly asked, I answered cash. I also never did a registry so all our gifts were cash.

If someone asked me directly, I would reply with “Well, we would love to put some money towards our house fund.”
