i'm planning a new year's eve house party and wanted to get some ideas and advice...FH and I and my brother (he lives with us) want to have kinda like a "night out on the town" type feel but also kinda like a casino theme / cocktail party......we were thinking of having blackjack table and everyone dress formal or semi-formal...i figured black, white, and red as colors would be fitting the theme....i was hoping to make it feel a little bit more classier than what of been finding online...i do not want it looking like this:

casino theme party.....but classier?? : wedding party decor new years casino theme 1544630387 37680e0545

i feel like this goes away from the cocktail party feel that i'm aiming for....but then since its gonna be a house party, i'm not sure how to pull off this kind of feel, esp in our house, which is a little small (living room is 13'X20') and well, not exactly an open floor plan......i feel like what i'm trying to go for would be better suited for a hall or something, but i dont think FH and my brother, nor I, are looking to spend THAT much on just a party......

should i just try to come up with a more simplified theme or something diff altogether??

any advice or suggestions on how to actually achieve what i'm aiming for??

I think if you're really serious about the Las Vegas/casino type vibe, then you may want to see if can be hosted in a place with a bigger open area to stage a blackjack table, a poker table, and a bar area.  You could hire some of your girlfriends to dress up in white button downs, a bowtie, small black shorts/skirts wi/ fishnets and heels to serve drinks and bring around snacks.  And it might be neat to get someone to play the part of the pit guys (black jack dealers, poker dealer, etc) and I'd definitely get someone to play bartender all night.  Make it sparkly and fun - make people dress to the nines for that old school Vegas glam!

Sounds like a lot of fun! :)

Yep, like pokerlove, I was going to suggest in your garage. A few friends of mine did this and set up like a whole casino in their garage.

And, to keep it that classy feeling, think James Bond Casino Royle :) Since everyone will be dressed cocktail style, your decor should reflect the attire.

Since this party is NYE, you will still have your christmas tree up, so play up the warm reds, and golds that come with Christmas. Serve cocktails in martini glasses, or with garnishes to add a little something. You could even set up a little "cigar bar"

For it not to look cheesy, keep decor simple, its more about the mood, so think about lighting, sound, and smell. If you do the party in a tent outside or in the garage you could string christmas lights across the ceiling & keep it dim. If you wanted to have little "centerpeices" of sorts, you could fill clear vases with poker chips, or cards.

    i dont have a garage... :-/

you think it would be too cold to have it outside?? i live in south jersey... i had thought about the tent idea but figured it'd be too cold to do something semi-formal outside....the other thing i was thinking about the tent is that renting tents and chairs might be just as much as renting a hall around my parts....i guess i should probly make a budget and all that before decided whether to go this route?

@ pokerlove:  thats awesome!! if you don't mind sharing what are some of your ideas/decor so far??

David Tutera did one with that theme only he elevated it from Vegas to Monte Carlo.  It's probably on the WEtv website.

I think it is a  great theme! We had some of these for our high school as get together nights or as fundraisers. Everyone has a great time! Serve some cocktails and have the tables set up, make a good guest list and play list and you should be fine!
