I have a pretty casual business lunch with someone next week and I’m trying to decide what to wear. He’s flying in from out of town for a conference and I’ve only met him once before. I’m guessing he’ll be wearing skinny jeans and a button down shirt but it’s possible he’ll be more dressed up.
I’m thinking maybe trouser jeans or black pants and some kind of blouse, but I can’t decide where the “too formal” line is and black pants seem oppressive for this gorgeous spring weather. I really don’t want to be overdressed and I will not be wearing a skirt or dress. I feel like a button down is too formal and buttoned-up, but not sure how summery and casual to go. All my work clothes are wintery because my last trip was in winter and I work at home.

I would wear a sleveless dress and light sweater. For you, I’d say no jeans, but some kind of non-jeans and summery top. Any sleveless or short sleve would work.

Ya, I’d go with a dress/skirt and a sweater…. But since you said no to those already I’d say maybe a nice (non-black) work pant or capri’s? I have some nice white trousers I wear to work as well as trousers in light springy plaid colors….

Argh. I was really hoping not to have to buy new pants. I have a 35″ inseam so buying pants is always a) irritating and b) expensive. I really don’t have the budget for it at the moment. 🙁

@kgirl91: Black and white is a major trend this spring. Black pants, white blouse with the neckline open, a graphic print scarf , black shoes and a hit of color in your purse.
