    Hi!

Any ideas on where to look for a casual floor-length wedding dress for an August daytime outdoor wedding?  I like some of the J.Crew ones but wanted to see if anyone had more ideas on where to look.  I checked a bunch of department stores yesterday in their "special occasion" dresses, but not many all-white/ivory dresses.

I'm looking for something like this:

    http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/dresses/weddingsparties/PRDOVR~96230/96230.jsp

    or this:

    http://www.dessy.com/dresses/bridesmaid/6550/?color=ivory&colorid=114

Basically something without a traditional train that wouldn't be too heavy for a summer wedding.

    Thanks for your help!
    Jean

I just found this designer recently and am on the ledge about possibly having a custom designed dress made from her!

    Tons of tea length loveliness!

What about a white/ivory bridesmaid dress? For that, you can look at Jim Hjelm/Alvina Valenta/Lazaro, or Vera Wang Maids, or Thread, just to name a few.

Try Ariadress.com. That's where i'm getting my dress, and their dresses are simple and cute! They even have eyelet... :)

It seems like a lot of bridal shops carry "destination" wedding dresses that are more informal with little/no train. Mine's a Maggie Sottero destinations dress. I saw some Nicole Miller dresses that were very simple like the ones you posted. (See my "found my dress today" post for a pic of the one I ended up with.) You could call the stores ahead of time and describe what you want and they should tell you if they have it or not. (Although be warned, one store assured me they did and they only had one or two that were lightweight. They kept wanting me to try on huge heavy things.)

My reception dress is from Aria (I'm a must-have-silk kinda girl). I got it off their sale page for $85. It's really nice - very well made. Also try Jenny Yoo.

Most of Nicole Miller's dresses have no train and are simple Mine is a Nicole Miller gown! They are at bridal salons, and there are a select cellection of them at edressme.com (where I got mine - but be sure before you order, because you can't return bridal gowns there). They have some other good white dresses, too! BCBG has a few cute floor length white gowns right now, too!

I ordered a floor length ivory bridesmaid dress and had a lace jacket made by a friend to go over it.  You can get most bridesmaid dresses in white.

I agree that most lines have destination dresses that are much more casual than their other dresses.  I was looking at those kinds of dresses, yet somehow got a ballgown.

Saja Bridal has some gorgeous casual wedding dresses, not sure on the price though.

This gown is beautiful and although it has a bit of a train you could always have it cut off and altered although I don't think the train is very dramatic at all the way it is.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions!!  I didn't know about all these designers that make more lightweight dresses so I'll definitely check it out.  I also bit the bullet and ordered three jcrew dresses to try on, and return if i don't like them (the avery, sophia, and cecilia).  I hope one of them is the one!

    @LadyGoodman

I love the first one on the page!  It looks a lot like Jcrew's sophia dress, I think, simple v-neck.  Thanks!

You just made my day! I wasn't aware of the Aria website and it has exactly what I have been looking for since I got engaged in September!

    @LadyGoodman

I went to Bella Bridemaid today hoping to try on some Jenny Yoo dresses, but they didn't have that many in the chiffon, and the one they did have didn't look so good on me.   I LOVED the saja dresses they had though, and now have to decide between two =)  They're perfect for summer weddings!

I'm looking at similar styles also! Definitely check out designers that specialize in bridesmaid dresses - even if they don't advertise as also selling wedding dresses, many dresses can be made in white or ivory!

I, too, am having an August daytime outdooor wedding...unfortunately, I am of no help because, after looking at appropriate dresses, I fell in love with the complete opposite.

I'm going to sweat my imaginary balls off wearing my large, princess, 100% polyester dress. Look for what you love, don't worry about the rest!

I'm worried that you will limit yourself. Find something that you love, then worry about it.

I'm having a destination beach wedding.  I like the following designers for simple, outdoor dresses:

    Augusta Jones

    Lela Rose

    Watters

    Melissa Sweet Reverie line

    Claire Pettibone

I really like the "bridal alternatives" from Jenny Yoo, also the After Six "destination" styles.

I found mine at a local bridal shop.  I tried on the big and poofy but this was the one that I wanted to put back on.  The Jcrew dresses are great but alass I am a size 18..

Hi all, thanks for the great advice!

@tigergirl i love the links of the ones you posted.  Dessy and Alfred Angelo seem to have some really nice ones!

I found one that I love...here's the pic.  it's a saja wedding dress:

Casual floor-length wedding dress for outdoor wedding : wedding summer wedding dress casual IMG 1773 Copy

It was really big and clipped in the back, so it should fit better when I order it in my size.  What do you all think?   I love this dress, should I just order it or keep looking around?

@rachelss Thanks! I've gotten some feedback from some relatives, like it doesn't look like a wedding dress, or I'm afraid it might look like underwear.  But I guess they're not the ones wearing it.  THey'll have to look at it though!

I'd check out Jenny Yoo, Saja, or Aria. They all make very simple dresses.

@jyh - I love it!!  I got a BCBG dress (it's probably one of the ones listed above).  It's very light and pretty.  I can only find a picture of the black version right now, but I know they also sell it in purple, yellow, ivory. . .

Ooh yeah that one's sooo pretty.   Unfortunately my small asian you-know-whats couldn't hold that strapless dress up hahaha. Hence...straps.

Yeah, I catch your drift!  I love straps.  You're looking for the same kind of dress I was looking for.  Check Nordstrom's too, I had some heavy contenders on there when I was searching.
