My cat has been missing since Sunday. 🙁 I’m super worried. It’s very unlike him, I know cats disappear for a few days sometimes, but he never does since he’s been older. He’s 15 years old and I’m scared he went off to die, or got hit. He’s an indoor/outdoor cat so I’ve been leaving the garage door open a foot at the bottom and put his food and water out, but he hasn’t touched it.
FI mentioned this weekend driving around the neighborhood to look for him. And said to post a missing ad on craigslist.
Has anyone else had an older cat that left that long and came home?

My best advice is on these threads:
My Indoor cat has been missing for 2 days
How to Find a Missing Cat
Feel free to ask me anything. Hope it helps! But there is no substitute for door to door legwork… do it sooner, rather than later!

Get out there! Call the shelter, post signs, go door to door. Call him.

Sorry about your missing cat!
My older cats have all died pretty close to home (generally outside, though). Maybe someone picked him up and dropped him off at a shelter? You could give them a call!

Oh no, I’m sorry 🙁 You’ll find him!! Keep us updated.

I think I will go out today and ask the neighbors, He has a collar and tag with our address and phone number so atleast there is that, I don’t think he was taken to the shelter. He’s really healthy (as far as I know) and well groomed. He has some chub so no one would think he was homeless and take him in.
I’m hopeing this is just some weird thing and he’ll come home!
He’s always home at night, he comes in for the night and we always cuddle/pet/feed in the evenings, It’s really weird not seeing him everyday!
I think we’ll take a family walk today and ask some people.

@PixelMePretty: I hope you find him soon!

Still haven’t found him. We asked the neighbors and none of them know exactly when they saw him last but they haven’t for a few days.
We are printing flyers today, I posted in 3 places on craigslist and some other lost and found pet websites.
We went out with our son for hours and drove through the neighborhood, calling him.
Good news we didn’t see him on the side of the road.
The bad news is it was raining and thundering last night and he still hasn’t come home.
It’s sooo out of character for him.
I feel like if he were in the area he would come home no question, we are very close, I had his mother and had to bottle feed him so he’s never left me. And we have a routine of cuddling/pets at nights and he is usually at the door waiting for me.
I don’t know if he went off to pass away, we are going to have to start looking at places he might go, there’s no way under our house.
And I can’t imagine someone took him in, he’s not super fat but he’s a little chunky, and he’s well groomed, has a collar and a tag with our address. So it’s not like he’s skinny and hungry.
We are going to the humane society today to make sure he wasn’t checked in anyway.

He’s still gone. I have flyers out, I post missing ad on 3 parts of craigslist everyday. I’m at a loss.
If he did go off to pass away where are some places he might go? I’ve checked all around our garage, the shed, by the bushes/trees. I live on a cul-de-sac so I can’t really go in the neighbors yards, should I go ask them to look around their yard? How weird is that though.
Not knowing is driving me crazy. I feel like I should have been there for him.
The last time I saw him he was batting at me from ontop the washer and I just patted his head and left, I didn’t even play or hug him.

This is heartbreaking. I’m so sorry.
When we had a cat who got out and went off to die, she crawled underneath the porch. Can you check underneath any buildings/decks/sheds/etc? Or any corners that are hidden?

I’m so sorry. My old cat got out of my dad’s house and was missing for 3 weeks and he was found and was worse for the wear but still alive. He was probably around 15 then and he is almost 20 now. So it’s still possible to find your cat.

I’m so sorry about your kitty. I’ve gone through this 3 times. Two times the cat had just ran off and was being silly (one of them ran away cause he chased a female cat, neighbours had seen him). The third didn’t end so well.
I pray that your kitty comes home safely!

Thanks, I keep having dreams about him, that he’ll just be all scruffy meowing and waiting for me in the morning. We drive around every evening through the neighborhood looking for him. I look in house windows to see if he’s inside somewhere (he’d for sure park himself in the window). But nothing at all, it’s like he vanished.
Neighbors haven’t seen him since around the same time I haven’t.
We don’t have any woods near by. He never ventures too far so it’s so weird to me. And he’s a big mamas boy, I nursed him from a kitten so he’s very attached to me, everytime another cat and him would spat (rarely anymore) he’d come running to the house for me to let him in.
There’s no way under our house, or in our attic, FI and I both double checked to make sure. I’ve been looking on the top of houses incase he got stuck (I’m sure someone would have heard his wailing). But nothing.
It’s so depressing everyday opening the door and calling for him and him not being there.
We have flyers everywhere but we’re going to put some more downtown (pretty far from our neighborhood) this weekend.

So sorry you haven’t found him yet. A friend of mine lost her kitty for just over 2 weeks in the peak of summer, she feared the worse…he’s home now. A few neighborhood kids had taken him and were acting like he was their secret pet. Eventually a parent found out and returned him. He was hungry and had lost some weight, but he’s happy, healthy, and home now.
I hope things turn out for the best or at least you get some sort of closure on this…it’s so sad. I’m so sorry. Hugs.

@PixelMePretty: I feel your pain. We have 2 indoor/outdoor cats. Our oldest cat (hes only 4) would ALWAYS come home within an hour after we got home from work. Or he would come running when we called his name. Well, after almost 3 days of him not coming home, and me being convinced that he was dead we found out that these weirdos down the street were feeding him and keeping him in their house. He does not look like a wild cat at all, he is groomed to perfection and a healthy weight. Anyway we keep having problems with these neighbors, and now our cat only goes out 4 days a week. It is so stressful.
Definately call animal control and ask about any other missing cats in that area. If no other cats are missing, your cat may just be enjoying the outside too much or may have been catnapped!
Good luck! Hope everything works out!
