So i’ve been lurking on the boards for months now soaking up all the great advice and it’s been wonderful!
I have a problem on my hands and was hoping the CT brides could help! My wedding in Sept 1, 2012 in Waterford and my caterer called me last night and canceled on me. Circumstances beyond their control and they were a family friend so I understand but now I am stuck!
I was hoping to get some advice on local caterers and price reccomendations. We are having a tented wedding and are providing the booze ourselves. Also we are renting the tents/tables…etc.
We are not looking to do a sit down or buffett, more like a tapas style, stations, heavy apps kind of wedding. Is $40 -$50 per person an acceptable range for this. Once again it would just be for food (inlcuding servers) nothing else.
Has anyone used any local caterers and found this price is reasonable? Coastal Gourmet? The Whisk? Two Chefs? I have started the email/calling of everyone but want to have an idea of what they will come back at me with.
What has Coastal Gourment quoted you?
Thanks so much for any help to keep me from completely freaking out:))

I wasn’t directly quoted by coastal gourmet, but they did send me several different package options specifically for Mystic Seaport. I would give them a shot for several reasons…
1. The stations menus seemed like they could likely fit within your budget, although I don’t know if the servers will be inclusive of those prices.
2. They seem uber-flexible, and excited for the opportunity to do something really custom for your menu.
3. They obviously have experience with different types of service, which I think is pretty important with the style you are thinking.
4. The woman I spoke with stands out as the SINGLE. MOST. HELPFUL. person in the wedding industry. After about 10,000 quotes for various wedding related services, she stands above everyone else as most responsive and flexible.
I wonder if they will allow you to do your own bar though?
I *loove* the type of dinner service you are talking about. I wanted exactly that for myself…huge variety, little bites of great food all over the place, a chance to have fun with my menu. Unfortunately there are several key family members I need to keep far away from each other to circumvent a family-wide brawl, so I’m not sure such an interactive feast is the best idea for me 🙁

Where are you having your wedding?

Thanks for your feedback Murphika:) I have a call and email in to Coastal Gourmet and hope to hear back from them soon.
The wedding is at the Eugene O’Neill Theater in Waterford:)

I second Murphika’s recommendation for Coastal Gourmet. We are getting married in Mystic and they are amazing. Incredibly helpful and willing to customize to get where you want to be in terms of price. And their food is wonderful!

I can’t answer your specific question. But our caterer cancelled on us with exactly 48 hours notice, and we still managed to find a replacement. The menu wasn’t the same, and it was buffet instead of table service, but at least we had a caterer. You still have 4 months, so please don’t freak out!

48 HOURS???????? I would have had to be sedated!
AstoriaKatie is your wedding at the seaport or somewhere else? I think I like the seaport but I don’t know if I want to do the boatshed or the river room.

you may also want to try cloud nine catering. they are slightly more affordable than coastal gourmet.

My wedding is at the Seaport in the River Room. I originally wanted the Boat Shed but then my fiance knocked some sense into me about not having a rain plan. Also, I read a comment somewhere where someone said that a seagull landed on the wedding cake at the Boatshed.

I would contact Rick at Emily’s Catering. They’re out of Bristol and can work within any budget. We ended up changing venues and didn’t need an outside caterer anymore, but we met w/ him and thought he was fantastic.
