So I’ve been researching and contacting caterers in Milwaukee since the end of May 2009. Here it is October and I have yet to pin a caterer down long enough to meet with anyone, muchless go to any tastings or discuss prices. Most often, when I call or e-mail a caterer, they say, “I’ll e-mail you our menu and get back to you in [insert a specific number of days here].” None have EVER gotten back to me! I’ve tried calling or e-mailing a few to see what’s up and I am met with silence! This just doesn’t seem like a professional or smart way to do business.
Maybe its my requests? None of the ceterers have said so, but maybe our request for a 99% vegetarian/vegan menu is throwing them off? The ONLY meat of any kind we want to see at our reception is 1 entree choice of chicken, fish, or beef. Frankly, that’s a compromise we made to make our parents happy.
Is this normal? Are other brides-to-be having problems getting caterers to set up tastings? Is there anything I can do to stop getting the run around?

Wow rabbit, I’m sorry to hear you’re having so many problems. I agree, that is not a good way to do business! I wouldn’t think that a vegetarian menu would throw them off that much.
I’m not from Milwaukee so I can’t comment on that location specifically, but do you have a way of finding other veg brides who might be able to point you in the right direction? Or is there a veg restaurant you could call for a recommendation?

I have actually tried calling many of our favorite vegetarian friendly resturants. Unfortunately, none of them cater! I only know one other vegetarian bride, but her wedding was chock full o meat. Her vegetarian dish was basically a one off since her husband is a huge meat eating man (which is sad because my veggie FI and I had very little to eat at their wedding as a result. At least the cake was good!). There is only 1 caterer that has been recommended to me which is big into vegetarian meals, but after the first round of hellos and information exchange, they’ve yet to get back to me. Very sad.
