Hi all: does anyone have experience with a ceremony at Cathedral Park in St. John’s, Portland, OR? I’m having a hard time judging whether we will be heard over all the background noise, especially when we can’t just pull 80 people to come sit around and tell me whether they can hear our vows. Help?!

@PDXpickle: Hi there! I don’t have any experience with this particular venue, but is there a way you can get mics/speaker system for your ceremony so that everyone can hear your vows? For us, it was 2 mics for our outdoor wedding – 1 on our officiant, and 1 on FI/DH. I basically spoke into his mic (hooked onto the collar of his shirt).

@pengoala: That sounds perfect, but the ceremony is being held in a space without any access to electricity. I really doubt the mic setup would work without being plugged in somehow, right?

@PDXpickle: Hmm…This may be something to ask a sound company about. Maybe they’ll have amps with batteries in them or something to that avail? It’s worth asking!

I read on a blog about a bride who purchased a battery operated portable sound system that included a microphone and iPod connection capability. I’m getting married at the Rhododendron Garden, which also doesn’t have electricity. I am renting a portable generator and PA sound system through my rental company.

I know that I did wedding flowers there last October and the bride had a speaker and sound system. The wedding took place on the lower stage so I know it can be done.
