We had petitions but we cut them short. We were on a time limit. I don’t see the problem having them out though. Your priest should be OK with it

I’m pretty sure you need petitions. I know our priest had a list of standard petitions though, for people who didn’t want to write their own. But I’m curious- why wouldn’t you want to write your own? Many brides have a problem with the Catholic Church not letting them “personalize” enough, and the petitions are one of the few places where you can almost completely do what you want!

I’m not sure if the prayers of the faithful are a part of mass that can be excluded or not, but I really enjoyed personalizing ours. It gave an opportunity for a cousin of mine who was too young to be a bridesmaid to be involved in the wedding, and it was nice to have everyone praying for us.

Our intentions:

For the Church and its leaders, that they will lead us and guide us in the search for goodness, peace, joy, and love among us. We pray to the Lord.  (Lord, hear our prayer)

For Leprechaun and Mr. Leprechaun, that our Father in heaven will bless them throughout their married life, and that he will keep them united in undivided love forever.  We pray to the Lord. (Lord, hear our prayer)

For the parents of L and Mr.L; whose examples and guidance have formed the foundation upon which they will build their life together. We pray to the Lord. (Lord, hear our prayer)

For all those gathered here on this joyous occasion, that you may continue to support L and Mr.L with your friendship and love throughout their lives. We pray to the Lord. (Lord, hear our prayer)

For all those who are sick or unable to be with us here today, especially L’s grandfather, Name, and L’s uncle, Name, that they may always be in our hearts and minds. We pray to the Lord. (Lord, hear our prayer)

For the loved ones of L and Mr. L who have gone before them — especially L’s grandparents, Names, and Mr. L’s grandparents, Names —that they, and all the deceased, find peace and the fulfillment together in heaven. We pray to the Lord. (Lord, hear our prayer)
