My Fiance and I just got back from our engagement encounter this weekend and we loved it. Although the days were very intense and long, we both gained a new perspective on how to give our marriage the best fighting chance at success.
The weekend really opened our eyes to how we communicate and resolve important issues and helped put both of us on the same page.
Are there any other bees that have gone through the engagement encounter weekend. If so what was the most important take away to you?
Even if you are not Catholic, I highly encourage anyone getting married to look into some sort of engagement retreat.
Best of luck to you all.

We went last August and we loved it! I especially liked how they brought up “uncomfortable” topics for us to discuss. It was a way to take time out of our busy life to really focus on us and our communication and our relationship. I beileve they also have a “Marriage Encounter” for couples needing some TLC post-nuptials.

We loved it! It was indeed loooooooooong hard days…. but it was so nice to not worry about friends, dinner, what to do, etc… to do nothing but talk about US for a whole weekend!

We didn’t have a weekend of it, and ours is called pre-cana, but the 12-hour day that we weren’t so excited for ended up being THE BEST THING we could have done for our relationship. We loved it and no one could believe that we did.
But I think it was the focus on faith in both God and our relationship was exactly what I needed, being a nervous nelly.
I think all faiths should have something like this too!

Champagne Wishes, I totally agree. Although I liked the weekend format, I am sure you can get just as much out of an intense 12 hour day.
I have friends that have done both, and they all say the experience is so rewarding. I too was a little nervous. Not that I am making a mistake but because I am so used to being, as my Fiance likes to call me, Ms. Independent. It was through this retreat that I was able to learn not just about us, but about myself and why I act or do certain things.
In the end we were both blown away by the overwhelming participation and honest of not only the presenters but of our entire group.
JennM21, since you already have such a positive attitude, I know you are going to have a great experience.
When we first got there, the presenters told us you get out of this weekend what you put in and I totally agree. It may seem cheesy at first, pouring your heart into a journal and then reading it to your future spouse, but the more you open up and allow your self to ve vulnerable the more you will grow.
Good luck to you girls and many blessings.
