Hello! I recently got engaged and we are working on picking a date for the wedding. We are both catholic and are planning on having our ceremony in the Catholic church. My question is if anyone has gotten married in a catholic church on New Year’s Eve? I know that New Year’s Day is a holy day and there are no weddings on those days, but I wasn’t sure about New Year’s Eve (our church back home has a midnight mass on New Year’s Eve too).
Does anyone have thoughts? Has anyone been to a Catholic wedding on New Year’s Eve?

Hi there, congrats on your engagement. To be completely honest I have never seen or heard of someone getting married on NYE. You may need to talk to your priest about this, but I don’t believe that many Catholic churches would do a wedding on this day, mostly because NY is a holy day of obligation and priests will be busy preparing for the mass.
Would you consider the weekend after new years? I think it would still be really lovely considering that it in still within the festive season 🙂

I was married in a Catholic church and although I never asked about NYE specifically our church only did weddings on saturdays, and they only do two. I looked at the calendar and NYE would be a week day for the next few years so you may run into issues. I would just start out speaking with someone from the church and they would very easily point you in the right direction. Congratulations on the engagement and enjoy wedding planning!
