Catty comments from engaged girls

I think it’s not necessarily a superiority complex, but it’s more a lot of “Many women get pregnant so they can get married” complex.

I had a month long engagement and when people found out, the first question they asked was, “Are you pregnant?”

It’s the same question, just worded a bit differently — insinuating that we got engaged because I was pregnant.

I’d just let it roll off you.

@Bettyboo1982:  We dated for just over a year before getting engaged.  I guess some people thought that was quick.  A few people asked me if I was pregnant.  There’s always going to be a critic.  I don’t think it was catty because you aren’t engaged…it’s just a rude question.  If you don’t see the baby crowning…don’t ask!

It kind of depends on how she said it, maybe she genuinely thought it was a possibility. My friend got pregnant at uni by accident and I’m pretty sure I remember asking her with another friend if her boyfriend might consider proposing cause of the baby. For some it’s an expected reaction, her response was that that he probably wouldn’t and she didn’t want him to 🙂

@Bettyboo1982:  ah, well it does sound kinda lame on her end, but I’d reckon she didn’t mean to be quite as mean as she ended up being (i do know how comments like these suck so I do empathise!).

@Bettyboo1982:  I dont think the comment had anything to do with her being engaged! I think it was just a rude comment anyone would make! Maybe she even ment it as a joke! especaily if you have told he that you are waiting before because you are close. The thing is just not all jokes are funny or come out the right way! I would not take the comment as she was meaning to be rude!

I don’t think she said it to be rude but rather, out of curiosity. Maybe she misunderstood what you meant and she was curious. I would’ve laughed at her.

Well, if I knew a girl who really, really wanted to get married and said she’ll just pregnant instead I would assume the same thing. That’s if I didn’t know about her desire to have babies, too.

Maybe she’s also blowing you off when you say you know he’ll propose soon because she knows you’ve been waiting for quite a while.

I have a friend like that. She’s been dating her SO for 8 years, much longer than the 3 years my fiance and I have been together. When I got engaged she kept saying maybe we’ll both have our weddings around the same time. I kind of blew her comments off because she wasn’t engaged yet.

Maybe your co-worker’s the same way. They’ll believe it when they see it.
